Jacob Turner allowed two runs on six hits over five innings Monday against the Diamondbacks. He struck out five and walked three. The former first-round pick has only allowed six earned runs in four starts, posting a 2.16 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 25 innings. Turner has only one win to show for his efforts, however, an unfortunate occupational hazard of pitching in South Florida.

Turner opened spring training as a favorite for a rotation spot, but Marlins manager Mike Redmond indicated on Tuesday that he's still competing for a job. Ricky Nolasco, Nathan Eovaldi and Henderson Alvarez are already expected to be in the rotation while Wade LeBlanc is likely to be the fourth starter, so the fifth spot will come down to Turner, Kevin Slowey and John Maine. Turner has a 10.80 ERA and 4/5 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings this spring and will make his next start on Sunday.
