Flaherty came away with a no-decision in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, scattering two hits and a walk over 6.2 scoreless innings in a 2-1 loss. He struck out 14.
EDGE Analysis
Facing the team he spent the first six-plus seasons of his career with, the 28-year-old right-hander made St. Louis regret letting him go. His 14 strikeouts were a career high, topping the 13 he reached twice in 2018, and he tied Tyler Glasnow for the most in a start this season. Flaherty also fanned the first seven batters he faced, tying the AL record most recently matched by Luis Castillo in 2022. Flaherty generated an eye-popping 24 swinging strikes among his 93 pitches, and he was in line for his first win of the season before Shelby Miller blew the save in the ninth. Flaherty is now second in the majors in strikeouts this season with 50, just behind Glasnow's 53, and he'll take a 4.00 ERA and 1.03 WHIP into his next outing, which is scheduled to come early next week in Cleveland.

Flaherty came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Rays, giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty stumbled early, giving up a solo shot to Randy Arozarena in the first inning and three more runs in the second, but he settled down after that and the Tigers took him off the hook for a loss in the top of the sixth. Flaherty generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 97 pitches, but he's having difficulty keeping the ball in the park -- he's served up a homer in all five of his starts, fueling a 4.91 ERA that isn't in sync with his 1.16 WHIP or 36:4 K:BB through 29.1 innings. He lines up for a potential revenge game in his next trip to the mound, a home matchup early next week against the Cardinals.

Flaherty allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out 10 during the win over Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty was tagged with a two-run shot in the first inning but turned in four shutout frames after that. The Twins later pushed across two unearned runs in the sixth. Flaherty's produced a terrific 30:3 K:BB through 24.1 innings this season. That 11.1 K/9 is currently a career-high and his first time producing a double-digit number in that category since the 2020 campaign. He also set a new season high with 19 whiffs. Flaherty is currently in line to take the mound in Tampa Bay next week.

Flaherty pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty was tagged for two runs in the second inning before giving up solo homer to Christian Vazquez in the fourth frame, accounting for the final tally on his ledger Sunday. The right-hander was able to pitch into the seventh inning for the first time in 2024, notching a season-high seven punchouts. The performance was his second quality start in three outings this year, and Flaherty will look to keep it up in his next projected start Friday on the road in Minnesota.

Flaherty (0-1) allowed six runs on nine hits and one walk over six innings to take the loss Sunday against the A's. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty's five runs allowed over the first two innings, capped by a three-run homer by Zack Gelof, put the Tigers behind the eight ball from the start, but to his credit, Flaherty allowed only one more run the rest of the way and was able to grind his way through six innings to help save the Tigers from taxing too many arms. Flaherty's start Sunday was in stark contrast to his first start of the season, when he allowed one run and fanned seven over a six-inning quality start against the White Sox. He's tentatively slated to take the hill next week during a four-game home series against the Twins.

Flaherty did not factor into the decision, allowing one run on four hits over six innings during Sunday's win over the White Sox. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
It's only one start against a weak White Sox lineup, but Flaherty was everything the Tigers hoped he'd be when they signed him as a free agent from St. Louis in the offseason. Flaherty allowed a solo shot to Korey Lee in the third, but otherwise kept the White Sox off the board in the quality start. He pitched well enough to earn the win and left in line for his first, but Andrew Chafin allowed a home run to Paul DeJong in the seventh that left Flaherty with merely a no-decision. Flaherty's soft start to the schedule continues next week as he's tentatively slated to face Oakland in his first start in front of his new home fans in Detroit.

Flaherty tossed four scoreless innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He allowed one hit and struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty came into the contest having allowed five runs across 3.2 innings this spring, so this was a step in the right direction. The righty struggled last season, posting a 4.99 across 144.1 innings with St. Louis and Baltimore, but he should be locked into a rotation spot in Detroit after agreeing to a one-year, $14 million deal. Fantasy managers may want to wait and see if Flaherty can string together a few good outings to start the regular season before investing, however.

Flaherty logged a scoreless inning without allowing a hit or a walk in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty, who joined the Tigers in December on a one-year, $14 million deal, looked good despite not lasting very long. The righty only tossed 10 pitches, with nine of them going for strikes. Flaherty figures to stretch out some in his next start as he ramps up for the regular season. He should have a rotation spot securely locked up, likely slotting in somewhere behind Tarik Skubal and fellow Detroit newcomer Kenta Maeda. Flaherty will be hoping to improve upon an uneven 2023 during which he posted a 4.99 ERA across 144.1 innings for the Cardinals and Orioles.

Flaherty signed a one-year, $14 million deal with the Tigers on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty will look to rebuild his value in the market after a couple down seasons, during which he struggled with injury and his control. In his last two seasons, he's posted a 4.84 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 180.1 innings. However, if he can return to his early-career form, Flaherty will join a promising Tigers rotation that also includes Tarik Skubal and fellow offseason addition Kenta Maeda.

Flaherty secured a spot on the Orioles' roster for their ALDS matchup against Texas, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty hasn't been used often since being moved to the bullpen, but he's been effective in the games he has pitched, allowing one run in three innings while striking out four batters. With John Means (elbow) left off the Orioles' playoff roster, Flaherty may have an opportunity to return to a starting role in the postseason.
