Flaherty almost surely isn't going to wind up taking the ball for the Tigers that day, however, as he's fully expected to be moved elsewhere prior to Tuesday's trade deadline. The righty had been scheduled to start Monday versus the Guardians, but the Tigers ultimately scratched him so as not to expose him to a potential injury ahead of the trade deadline.

He is currently penciled in to take the mound again Monday against the Guardians once more, but with the trade deadline on Tuesday, it remains to be seen if the 28-year-old will still be with the team by the time his next turn in the rotation comes around. If Flaherty is dealt, he should remain a strong fantasy asset given his performance so far this season.

The Detroit right-hander collected his second consecutive win, as he conjured 17 whiffs to produce eight punchouts. In his second start since returning from a back injury, Flaherty masterfully commanded his arsenal over 98 pitches. He has now pitched to a 3.13 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 127:17 K:BB across 100.2 innings, making him a prime trade target at the upcoming July 30 deadline. Flaherty is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Guardians on the road.

Flaherty (6-5) picked up the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

Flaherty, who had not pitched since June 27 due to lingering back issues, received plenty of run support while holding the Guardians' lineup in check, save for a solo homer in the third by Bo Naylor. Through 95 innings, He's tallied an impressive stat line of 119 strikeouts to go along with a 3.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. With the All-Star break approaching, Flaherty, who is one of this season's larger All-Star snubs, will receive additional rest prior to the start of the second half of the season.

Flaherty avoided a stint on the injured list when a back issue reared its head coming out of his June 27 start versus the Angels, but he'll end up having missed nearly two weeks while waiting for two pain-killing injections to provide some relief. The Tigers seem confident that the extended rest will help resolve Flaherty's back problems, which also resulted in him missing a turn through the rotation in the first half of June. Back issues aside, Flaherty has been even better than the Tigers could have hoped when they signed him to a one-year, $14 million deal this winter. Over his 15 starts, Flaherty has gone 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 115:14 K:BB in 89 innings.

Flaherty will receive a second pain-killing injection in his back and will have his next start pushed back to next week, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Flaherty had been slated to start Wednesday in Minnesota but will be held back until next week for a home matchup against the Guardians. It's worrisome that Flaherty has now had two turns skipped over the last month with back problems, but it appears he will again avoid a stint on the injured list.
