Before being traded to Los Angeles on Tuesday, Flaherty was scheduled to make his next start with the Tigers on Thursday. He'll instead get a couple extra days of rest and take the mound in the middle game of Los Angeles' weekend set in Oakland. Flaherty will look to extend a fantastic two-month stretch during which he's posted a 1.77 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 52:10 K:BB over 45.2 innings while going 6-1 across eight starts.

The Yankees backed out of a potential trade for Flaherty due to medical concerns over the pitcher's lower back, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Rosenthal says the Tigers and Yankees reached a preliminary agreement on a trade that would have sent Flaherty to New York, but the Yanks pulled out after reviewing the hurler's medical records. Flaherty has dealt with a back issue off and on since early June but has not required a trip to the injured list. For what it's worth, Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said Tuesday that Flaherty is healthy and had been in line to start for them Thursday had he not been traded. It seems as though the Dodgers were just more willing to absorb some injury risk with Flaherty than the Yankees were.

The right-hander was slotted to start for Detroit on Thursday, but it remains to be seen when he'll make his Dodgers debut and who the Tigers will receive in return.

If Flaherty is dealt, he should remain a strong fantasy asset given his performance so far this season.
