This should be considered Nova's in-between starts work and should not affect his ability to serve as a normal starter Saturday. Nova, who threw 23 pitches Wednesday, departed his previous start Sunday after 71 pitches (3.1 innings).

Nova will throw one inning to open Wednesday's game against the Twins instead of throwing his scheduled bullpen session, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Dylan Covey (shoulder soreness) was scratched from that start so Nova will open the bullpen game in his stead. It sounds like this will not affect his ability to stay on turn and start Saturday's game against the Tigers.

After a strong six start stretch spanning July 22 to Aug. 24, Nova has come back to earth in his last two outings by allowing 10 earned runs and 19 hits across 8.1 innings. He now owns a 4.69 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 167 frames for the campaign and will draw his next start Tuesday against Kansas City.

Nova (9-11) took the loss Friday as the White Sox were downed 10-7 by Atlanta, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks over four innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

A four-run second inning accounted for most of the damage, as Nova got tagged for more than two runs in a start for the first time since July 17. The veteran right-hander will carry a 4.48 ERA and 97:40 K:BB through 162.2 innings into his next outing Wednesday in Cleveland.
