Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild told Jim Duquette of Sirius XM Radio Friday that there is a "high percentage" Hiroki Kuroda returns to the team if he doesn't go back to Japan. That's essentially what Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com indicated Thursday. The Yankees are expected to make the right-hander a $13.3 million qualifying offer, and that might be enough to get it done. Kuroda posted a 3.32 ERA while winning 16 games for the Bombers this season.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that impending free agent Hiroki Kuroda is willing to accept a one-year deal. The Yankees are expected to make the right-hander a $13.3 million qualifying offer, and he could wind up accepting it. Heyman says that the 37-year-old Kuroda is willing to pitch on a one-year deal again because he eventually wants to return to pitch in Japan and hopes to "have something left when he does it." Kuroda posted a 3.32 ERA while winning 16 games for the Bombers this season.

Pitching on short rest, Hiroki Kuroda allowed three runs on five hits in 7 2/3 innings in Sunday's ALCS Game 2 loss to the Tigers. Kuroda had a perfect game through five innings before ultimately falling apart. His statline likely would have looked better if not for a pivotal bad call in the top of the eight inning. Kuroda finished with 11 strikeouts and no walks on 103 pitches. Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain and Clay Rapada allowed two inherited runs in relief.

The Yankees officially announced Saturday that Hiroki Kuroda will draw the start against Anibal Sanchez and the Tigers in Game 2 of the ALCS on Sunday. Kuroda will be working on short rest, as he pitched in the Yankees' Game 3 victory over the Orioles on Wednesday. This sets it up so that staff ace CC Sabathia will match up against Justin Verlander when the best-of-seven series moves to Detroit for Game 3 on Tuesday.

Hiroki Kuroda held the Orioles to two runs over 8 1/3 innings in Wednesday's 3-2 ALDS Game 3 victory. The right-hander allowed just five hits, walked one and struck out three. Kuroda allowed a couple solo home runs and was in line for a hard-luck loss before Raul Ibanez's heroics. The 37-year-old allowed six runs over just 1 1/3 innings in his last postseason start back in 2009 with the Dodgers, so he likely was happy to put that farther in his rear-view mirror.

Kuroda will head back to free agency at season's end, where he'll be a strong favorite to re-sign with the Yankees.

Hiroki Kuroda gave up four runs over six innings but punched out 10 batters in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Rays. Kuroda recorded his first six outs and seven of his eight on punchouts. He got a little unlucky in the sixth, as a bad-bounce grounder scored a pair of runs. Kuroda has now pitched at least six innings in all 13 second half starts and boasts a 2.98 ERA since the break. He'll get the A's next.
