New Marlins manager Clayton McCullough believes Cabrera can take a big step forward this season, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old has never been lacking in raw arm talent and has struck out 225 batters in 196 innings over the last two seasons, but Cabrera's shaky control and command have been the main thing holding him back so far during his big-league career, along with an inability to stay healthy. Despite McCullough's enthusiasm, it's hard to get too excited about Cabrera as a fantasy asset given his 4.95 ERA, 4.68 FIP and 1.40 HR/9 in 2024, but the Marlins are in dire need of quality innings and the right-hander is locked into a rotation spot as long as he can avoid another trip to the IL.

The Marlins and Cabrera avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cabrera qualified for Super 2 status and will avoid an arbitration hearing. Still trying to find consistency at the major-league level, the right-hander held a 4.95 ERA and 107:50 K:BB over 96.1 innings this past season.

Cabrera allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings in a no-decision against Minnesota on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Cabrera's own error led to two unearned runs in the third inning, and he served up a solo shot to Byron Buxton in the fourth. The most impressive part of the right-hander's outing was his 16 swinging strikes, though they led to a modest five punchouts. Cabrera didn't get the win, but this was a vast improvement over his previous start, when he gave up seven runs over 2.1 frames against the Dodgers.

Cabrera (4-8) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks over 2.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Cabrera allowed single runs in each of the first two innings, then lost his control in the third, tossing just 10 of 26 pitches for strikes while allowing a single, three walks and hitting a batter prior to being pulled with one out in the inning. Two additional runs crossed the plate prior to his removal while all three runners he was responsible for later came around to score to render him with seven total runs allowed. Cabrera entered the game having allowed just one earned run over his previous three starts but ran into a buzzsaw on Thursday. Cabrera is tentatively slated to make one more start this season, set to take place when the Marlins travel to Minnesota to take on the Twins.

Cabrera (4-7) allowed two unearned runs on one hit and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out nine and taking a loss against Washington.
EDGE Analysis
Cabrera gave up two runs in the first inning due to his own error before settling in for a dominant outing. He racked up nine punchouts for the first time since May 2 and generated 16 whiffs, including seven with the changeup. Cabrera has produced an 18:4 K:BB while allowing only one earned run over his last 18.1 innings. Since returning from the injured list in July, he's registered a 3.72 ERA, lowering his season mark to 4.55 through 89 innings. Cabrera is currently in line for a home matchup against the Dodgers next week.

Cabrera (4-6) earned the win Sunday, allowing three hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings against the Phillies. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Cabrera shut down a potent Phillies lineup, allowing only four baserunners through seven shutout innings. He was initially slated to start Friday's contest but a migraine pushed his start back to Sunday and Cabrera delivered a quality performance. It was the second time in the last month that Cabrera has completed seven scoreless innings and the eighth time in his last nine starts that he's tossed at least five innings while allowing three or fewer runs. Cabrera will look to continue his strong close to the season when he takes on the Nationals in Washington.

Cabrera (head) is slated to start Sunday's game against the Phillies in Miami.
EDGE Analysis
Cabrera had initially been in line to start Friday versus Philadelphia, but he was scratched approximately 70 minutes before the opening pitch after reporting migraine-like symptoms. The Marlins instead opted for an impromptu bullpen day while Cabrera was briefly hospitalized due to the issue but quickly released. After rejoining the Marlins on Saturday, Cabrera is apparently feeling much better and will now end up taking the hill for the series finale as a replacement for Max Meyer, who was placed on the injured list with shoulder bursitis.

Cabrera (migraine) could be available to start Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cabrera was scratched from his start Friday due to migraines, and he spent a brief period of time in the hospital. He was discharged and cleared, leaving him the chance to pick up his throwing progression Saturday. Even if Cabrera isn't available Sunday, he should be available to start at some point in the coming days.

Cabrera (undisclosed) has been scratched from his start for Friday's game against the Phillies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear why Cabrera was removed from Friday's start, but Austin Kitchen will start in his place. Cabrera is 3-6 over his 16 starts this season with a 5.33 ERA, 1.47 WHJIP and 84:42 K:BB across 76 innings. His next projected start in the rotation is at the tail end of the Marlins' road series against the Pirates on Sept. 11.
