Derek Jeter was scratched from Sunday night's nightcap of a doubleheader against Baltimore with a right knee contusion. He was yanked from the lineup mere minutes before first pitch. Jeter fouled a ball off his knee in the day game but should be fine. "I mean, it hurts," Jeter said. "It's really nothing." Eduardo Nunez will play shortstop with Eric Chavez at third base.

Derek Jeter had his second five-hit night of the season on Wednesday, helping the Yankees destroy the White Sox 18-7 in Chicago. Jeter singled four times, doubled and drove in two runs in the fourth five-hit game of his career. The big night ups his average from .270 to .280, while he's now batting .333 with an OPS well north of .800 in 24 games since coming off the disabled list on July 4. Perhaps reports of his mixed-league demise were premature.

Derek Jeter left Sunday's game after getting hit on the hand by a Jake Arrieta pitch. Jeter was hit in the third inning and initially tried to remain in the game, but he eventually had to come out two innings later. It's always a concern when a player gets hit on the hand because it's so easy to break something. We'll update his condition as soon as more is known.

Derek Jeter was 2-for-5 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Monday's win against the Mariners. Jeter has now hit safely in seven out of his last nine games to raise his batting average to .273 for the season. The homer was his fourth. The future Hall of Famer will remain a below average fantasy option at shortstop going forward.
