Ortiz will retire at the end of the 2016 season, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's important to note Ortiz has not yet confirmed the news, however considering he will turn 40 years-old Wednesday, it wouldn't be a surprising development. The designated hitter just finished recording his third straight 30+ home run, 100+ RBI season so it's clear his skills at the plate haven't diminished much with age, but he's played just 20 games at first base over the last three years and he vehemently expressed disinterest in seeing more time at that position earlier this season. As long as Ortiz stays healthy, he should be in line for another stellar season at the plate.

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Indians, Sean McAdam of Comcast Sports Net reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 39-year-old had been kept out of the lineup Thursday with some general soreness, so it's not a surprise to see him out of the lineup Saturday as well. Brock Holt will get the start at DH instead and hit sixth in the batting order.

Ortiz was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a losing effort against Cleveland on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
He sat out Thursday's contest suffering from general soreness, and there was some talk that he might be shut down for the season, but he was back in his normal clean-up spot and serving as the designated hitter. He swatted his 37th home run in the fourth inning, and was later removed for a pinch hitter when the game was out of reach. His status for the weekend is unclear, so those with daily changes will want to monitor Boston's lineup on Saturday and Sunday.

Ortiz is reportedly dealing with some "general soreness" and could miss the remainder of the regular season, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given Ortiz's age (40), it's not a huge surprise that his body has undergone some wear and tear. He will skip his third game in the past six, and it sounds as though he may have played his last contest of the 2015 campaign.

EDGE Analysis
As the Red Sox finish of the road portion of their 2015 season, several veterans will get the day off, including Ortiz. Allen Craig will make an appearance as Boston's DH on Thursday against CC Sabathia and the Yankees.

Ortiz is not in the lineup Monday against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Ortiz sat Saturday as well and the Yankees are sending right-hander Ivan Nova to the mound. Allen Craig will get the start as the team's DH in his place and bat sixth.

Ortiz is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
This will be Ortiz's second missed start in September, a month in which he's hitting .286/.367/.662 with seven home runs. In his place, Dustin Pedroia will get his first start at DH in 2015, batting second.

Ortiz went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI in Boston's win over the Orioles on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz clubbed three doubles, raising his average to .270 with an impressive 104 RBI. The ageless Ortiz also has 36 home runs this season, and continues to set the standard for designated hitters.

Ortiz went 2-for-4 with his 36th homer and two RBI against the Rays on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
His first-inning two-run shot represented the sum of the Boston offense on the evening. That's a tough break for the Sox, but it's a nice personal accomplishment for Ortiz, who cleared 100 RBI for the ninth time in his career. At age 39, he's driven in triple digits in three consecutive seasons. He doesn't get a lot of fantasy hype, but when you look up at the numbers at the end of the year, Ortiz is always hanging with the best of 'em.
