David Ortiz left Friday's game against the Indians with left heel soreness.
Ortiz went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored before Darnell McDonald pinch-hit for him in the seventh inning. The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but he missed some time with a right heel injury last season. Stay tuned.

David Ortiz continued his early-season mashing Monday, blasting a pair of solo homers in a win over the Athletics.
Both longballs came off of southpaw Tommy Milone, who hadn't allowed a hit to a left-handed batter all year until Papi took him deep in the second inning. The Red Sox hit four homers on the night, as Mike Aviles and Darnell McDonald also went deep. Ortiz will be in the running for AL Player of the Month honors after batting .405 with six homers and 20 RBI in April.

David Ortiz went 4-for-4 with an RBI as the Red Sox lost a wild one at Fenway to the Yankees on Saturday.
It was already Ortiz's second four-hit effort of the season, and raised his average to .436 (24-for-55). The slimmed down version of Big Papi has looked tremendous in the early going and already has 12 RBI on the season. Look for him to continue tormenting AL East pitchers all year long.

David Ortiz was 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 10-3 win over the Twins.
Ortiz's solo shot had just enough mustard to make it over the right field fence. We wouldn't bank on a repeat of his .309 batting average from last season, as it was aided by a .321 BABIP (batting average on balls in play), but he should still provide plenty of thump for fantasy owners.

Red Sox and DH David Ortiz avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $14.575 million contract.
It's the midpoint between the $16.5 million salary that Ortiz requested and the $12.65 million figure that the Red Sox offered when arbitration numbers were exchanged last month. The two sides reached the deal a few hours before a scheduled arbitration hearing. Ortiz, 36, had a 309/.398/.554 batting line, 29 home runs and 96 RBI in 146 games last season. He still has great fantasy value.

Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that there's been "no progress" between the Red Sox and David Ortiz's representatives regarding a deal for 2012.
Barring a deal being struck at the last minute, the two sides will go to an arbitration hearing on Monday. Ortiz requested a salary of $16.5 million and was offered $12.65 million by the Red Sox when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. The 36-year-old batted .309/.398/.554 with 29 home runs and 96 RBI in 146 games last season.
