Ortiz hit his fifth home run of the season in a 2-for-4 performance against Seattle on Saturday. Ortiz has been off to a dreadful start, but the homer off King Felix may be the start of a power surge for the Red Sox clean-up hitter. He is batting just .236 with a career-low SLG of .402 this far this season.

Ortiz went 2-for-4 in the 2-1 loss to the Mariners on Friday night. Ortiz was only 5-for-39 against lefties coming into the game, so it was nice to see him getting a couple of knocks in a game started by a southpaw. He still has a lot of ground to make up in order to get back on pace to meet expectations as he is only batting .228 with 14 RBI on the season.

Ortiz had two hits, a double and an RBI in five at-bats in Monday night's win over the Athletics. He was also picked off second base following the double. Ortiz was under .200 late in April, but a 12-game stretch in which he's 14-of-45 has raised his average to .243. Now we just need to see his trademark power game -- Ortiz is homer-less with five RBI in the past 13 games.

Ortiz served his one-game suspension Friday. Expect Ortiz back in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Ortiz will be suspended for Friday's game after losing his appeal about the incident on Apr. 20, WEEI's Rob Bradford reports. He made contact with an umpire in the game in question, so it does not come as a surprise that he lost the appeal. It's really not a big deal for Ortiz or the Red Sox, as he could have used a day off at this point given his age. Look for Allen Craig or Mike Napoli to play DH while Daniel Nava and Brock Holt presumably slot into the outfield corners.

Ortiz will be out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles. After going 0-for-5 at the dish Saturday to drop his season average to .194, Ortiz will be rested for Sunday's afternoon tilt. Early-season struggles aren't foreign to Big Papi, who has still been able to hit for pop (four homers) and get on base (10 walks) at a decent clip, despite his inconsistent hitting. Fantasy owners need not be alarmed just yet.

Ortiz has been suspended one game for making contact with an umpire in Sunday's game against the Orioles. He has decided to appeal. It's difficult to imagine that Ortiz's suspension will be overturned. He may simply drop the appeal for a matchup where he'd be given a day off in the near future by the Red Sox anyway.

Ortiz went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored on Sunday before being ejected in the 5th inning for arguing a checked swing. Big Papi's team could have used him, as they were down just two runs at the time of his ejection, but he was forced to hit the showers early after voicing his disgust with Jerry Meals' call. Ortiz should slot back into his typical spot in the order on Monday.

Ortiz went 3-for-3 Saturday with a walk, a double and a run scored. Big Papi's had a slow start to the season, and even after Saturday's multi-hit effort he's still only slashing .237/.341/.421. Better days are probably ahead for Oriz, but at 39 years old any slump is cause for at least a little concern.

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, according to Tim Britton of the Providence Journal. Ortiz will sit for the second time this season with the Red Sox playing an early afternoon game and facing left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Mike Napoli will serve as Boston's designated hitter Wednesday.
