Yankees claimed RHP Danny Farquhar off waivers from the Athletics; optioned him to Double-A Trenton. Farquhar was just designated for assignment by the Athletics over the weekend. The 25-year-old right-hander only has three major league appearances under his belt, but he has a 3.20 ERA and 275 strikeouts over 269 2/3 innings in the minors. He'll function as bullpen depth in the minors.

It's Farquhar's second stint with Oakland after he was acquired from the Blue Jays in the Rajai Davis deal circa 2010. He was previously pitching at the Double-A level with Toronto despite his career 2.99 ERA in the minors.
