Farquhar was called up by the Rays on Saturday, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.

The Rays placed Logan Forsythe on the DL on Saturday, and subsequently called up Farquhar as a result. Farquhar had pitched in six games for the Rays before being sent to Triple-A Durham on April 22. He had posted a 3.38 ERA in 5.1 innings during that time.

Farquhar was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Friday.

The Rays needed to clear a spot on the 25-man roster for Saturday's starter, Blake Snell, and Farquhar was the casualty. He has been fairly mediocre of late for the Rays, giving up two home runs over his last 3.1 innings, but he'll likely be back up in the bullpen at some point, as the Rays need all the fresh relievers they can get. With Alex Colome taking a firm hold on the closer job for now, Farquhar has very little value in most formats, even when he's up in the majors.

Farquhar pitched a scoreless inning and struck out a batter in Wednesday's 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

The five-year veteran has been able to extend his impressive work from the spring into his first two appearances of the regular season. He's fanned three of the eight batters he's faced, and held opposing hitters to a .143 average while throwing 27 of his 41 pitches for strikes. Farquhar is one of several Rays relievers that will continue holding down the fort until Brad Boxberger's (abdomen) return, but ideally slots as a sixth-to-seventh-inning type specialist that bridges the gap from starter to set-up man.

Farquhar was informed Saturday that he's made the Rays' Opening Day roster, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

However, Farquhar has been lights out throughout spring allowing just two earned runs in 11 innings and giving him a good shot at making the team.

It was another solid outing for the veteran right-hander, who continues to acquit himself well in his bid for a spot in the Rays bullpen, following a forgettable 2015 season in Seattle. After posting a 1-8 record and 5.12 ERA over 51 innings last season, Farquhar has surrendered eight hits and two earned runs over 10.1 spring innings in seven appearances for Tampa, good for a stellar 1.74 ERA.

Farquhar (1-0) surrendered one hit and no runs over 1.2 innings in Friday's 5-1 spring victory over the Red Sox. He also struck out a batter.

EDGE Analysis

Competing for a spot in the Rays bullpen, the 29-year-old bounced back after surrendering four hits and an earned run over two innings against the Red Sox on Mar. 13. Farquhar has posted a solid 1.35 ERA and notched five strikeouts over 6.2 innings so far this spring.

Farquhar was traded to the Rays on Thursday as part of a six-player deal, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

EDGE Analysis

Farquhar made 43 appearances with the Mariners in 2015, striking out 48 batters while walking 17 across 51.0 innings. Even in pitcher-friendly Safeco Field, Farquhar gave up six of his nine home runs at home. He'll likely compete for a spot in the Rays bullpen out of spring training.

Farquhar was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

EDGE Analysis

Farquhar struggled in his previous stint with the Mariners, recording a 5.75 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 36 innings. That being said, he could still provide some bullpen depth for a club that's desperate to find some consistency in the late innings.

Farquhar was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma after Sunday's game against the Angels. Farquhar threw four innings in three appearances during his latest stint with the big league club, allowing two earned runs (both off solo homers) and throwing four strikeouts.
