Wright didn't produce well during an earlier stint with the Reds, and the minors haven't fared much better, as the right-hander owns a 6.13 ERA for Triple-A Louisville. As a result, he'll have to surrender his 40-man roster spot, which will allow Cincinnati to call up infield depth while Brandon Phillips deals with a foot injury.

The move was made official by manager Bryan Price on Saturday, who had to finally have grown tired with the struggles of Simon and his 9.11 ERA. Wright was originally brought up to be a starter, according to Price, but the team wanted to get a slightly longer look at Simon, as well as offer John Lamb an opportunity to carve out a spot in the rotation. With Simon now relegated to the bullpen, Wright will get another chance to show he belongs in the big league rotation. He's already tossed 10 innings for the Reds this season, striking out six batters but allowing eight earned runs in the process.

Wright will be available to pitch from the bullpen Sunday, instead of staying in the starting rotation, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.
