Hamels (oblique) threw 21 pitches during a bullpen session Sunday and experienced no issues, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. "It looked good...it looked normal," Rangers pitching coach Doug Brocail said of Hamels' session.
EDGE Analysis
It was Hamels' first mound work since he was shut down after his April 26 start due to a strained right oblique. The Rangers will wait and see how Hamels is feeling a couple days after the session before outlining the rest of his throwing program. The veteran left-hander isn't expected to come off the disabled list until shortly before the All-Star break.

Hamels will throw a bullpen session Sunday for the first time since injuring his oblique May 2, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels resumed throwing in late May, and he is now ready to advance to the next step in his recovery. He could require more bullpen work and will almost certainly head out on a rehab assignment before rejoining the big club, but the Rangers should provide an official update on his status after observing him Sunday and Monday.

Hamels (oblique) said he would play catch for another week before ramping up his throwing program, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels has experienced no renewed soreness with his strained right oblique after throwing on consecutive days, but the Rangers will still have him take it easy for the next few days before having him test things out on a mound. There's been no change in the eight-week recovery timetable the Rangers initially outlined for Hamels back on May 3, so it's not expected that he'll rejoin the rotation until shortly before the All-Star break.

Hamels (oblique) played catch Tuesday for the first time since landing on the disabled list, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although he's likely still out for another month, Hamels starting to throw again is a positive sign of his progress. According to Fletcher, pitching coach Doug Brocail was impressed with the zip Hamels was getting on his tosses Tuesday. The next step of Hamels' rehab process will likely be decided after the club sees how his oblique responds to the increased activity in the coming days.

Hamels was placed on the 10-day DL Wednesday with a right oblique strain and is expected to miss about eight weeks, the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports.
EDGE Analysis
He suffered the injury while warming up for his start on Tuesday before eventually being scratched. This is a huge blow to the Rangers and Hamels' fantasy owners, as it was thought he might only need a couple weeks off before returning to the rotation, but might now be out until the All-Star break. Nick Martinez is expected to remain in the rotation for the time being, as Tyson Ross (shoulder) has yet to go on a rehab assignment.

Hamels was scratched from Tuesday's start against the Astros due to tightness in his oblique, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear if the oblique tightness flared up during warmups or if this is something that has been bothering Hamels in the past. Either way, the starter will not pitch Tuesday against the Astros in a very last-minute scratch. Alex Claudio will take the mound for his first major-league start in Hamels' asbense. More news on the injury should become available in the near future.

Hamels (2-0) allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks across 6.2 innings in Wednesday's win over the Twins. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels cruised after allowing a two-run homer in the second inning, with the only other run on his ledger coming after the bullpen let an inherited runner score with two outs in the seventh inning. He induced 10 groundballs, including a pair of double-plays, as he delivered his fourth quality start in five tries. Hamels has been a consistent performer through the opening weeks of the season and will carry a 3.03 ERA to go along with a 1.13 WHIP into Tuesday's start against the Astros.

Hamels (1-0) allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over eight innings in Friday's 6-2 win over the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Backed by a four-homer barrage, the left-hander cruised to his first win of the season, throwing 71 of 107 pitches for strikes. Hamels will look to build on this momentum in his next start Wednesday at home against the Twins.

Hamels (0-0) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters during his no-decision against Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
The Texas bullpen couldn't hold off the Mariners, and Hamels still hasn't factored into the decision in any of his three starts to begin the campaign. The veteran lefty wasn't at his best Sunday, either, and he's now allowed a home run in each of his three starts. He also has just 11 strikeouts through 18 innings. After turning in reliable fantasy numbers year in, year out for over a decade, Hamels is probably set for a decline for a third straight season. He's still a serviceable asset, but expecting his 2011 results is ill-advised.

Hamels tossed seven innings in Anaheim on Tuesday, giving up a single run on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels was in line for the win, but closer Sam Dyson blew it for him in the ninth, leading to an eventual 10-inning loss. He's failed to come away with a win in his first two starts, and there are some warning signs underlying the 2.77 ERA that Hamels owns in the early going. The lefty hit a batter and gave up a homer in both starts, which isn't pleasant to see after he faded down the stretch last year (particularly in terms of control). That said, we're still talking about a guy who's struck out 200 hitters in four of the last five seasons, including last year. At 33, the tank clearly isn't empty for Hamels yet. He'll draw the Mariners on the road Sunday.
