Coco Crisp reported improvement with his left hamstring on Saturday. Athletics manager Bob Melvin said it was the first time the outfielder didn't feel any soreness in the hamstring while walking around. That's still a long ways away from being able to run and play in games, but it's at least a step in the right direction.

Athletics placed OF Coco Crisp on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 30, with a left hamstring strain. Crisp suffered the injury during Monday's extra-inning win over the Angels. It didn't appear to be all that serious at first, but he'll now be sidelined until around mid-May. Yeonis Cespedes figures to play center field until Chris Young is ready to return to the lineup.

The power shouldn't be expected to remain all season, but he's more than capable of continuing to set the table at the top of the A's lineup. One of the most proficient base stealers in the game, it's hard to find a player who's had a better first month than Crisp.
