Chris Davis

Tue 7/5/11 9:38 PM

Chris Davis was scratched from Triple-A Round Rock's lineup Tuesday due to a sore groin. It's not clear right now how long he might be out, but it's potentially bad timing for Davis, as he seemed poised for a call-up before long. He's posted a robust .372/.417/.851 batting line with 20 homers at Triple-A this season.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers are considering calling up Chris Davis from Triple-A Round Rock to play left field, which would allow Josh Hamilton to see more regular playing time in center field. Davis is batting .374 with 19 homers over 33 games with Triple-A Round Rock this season, including a .380 batting average and 10 homers in the month of June. "Every time you look at the box score, it seems like he's hit two home runs," said Rangers general manager Jon Daniels. "He's really gone off down there. [Bringing him back] is something we've talked about a little bit. He can play any of the four corner positions [left, right, first base or third base]. It's the reason we asked him to play some outfield. With his athleticism, we thought he could do it. He has shown he can." The Rangers have been reluctant to use Hamilton in center field due to the risk of injury, but the addition of Davis could help bolster their lineup.
