Coghlan will bat second Saturday against the Reds, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports. It marks the third time this season Coghlan has hit in the two-hole. He is 9-for-11 with three doubles and two homers in his career against Reds starter Mike Leake, and 8-for-18 with a two doubles and a homer in his last five games.

Coghlan hit his eighth homer of the year -- a three-run shot -- as part of a 2-for-5 effort with two runs scored Wednesday against the Tigers. He's been an asset in limited usage against right-handed pitching, as all of Coghlan's home runs (and the vast majority of his at-bats) have come against righties. He's the ultimate platoon player, but Coghlan is just one off his career high in homers, so he's proven to be a serious NL-only asset at minimum.

Coghlan is not in the lineup Tuesday against Detroit. Coghlan will get the day off after starting each of the last three games in left field. Manager Joe Maddon will go with Chris Denorfia in left Tuesday against Tigers' right-hander Anibal Sanchez.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals. Coghlan's absence Thursday likely relates to the left-handed Gio Gonzalez on the mound for the Nationals. Matt Szuczur will receive the start in left field in his place, batting sixth for the Cubs on Thursday.

Coghlan is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins. With left-hander Brad Hand due up for Miami, Coghlan will head to the bench as Kris Bryant moves out for his first career start in left field. Junior Lake will start in right in place of Jorge Soler (ankle).

Coghlan is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports. After starting each of the last five games, Coghlan will give way to Junior Lake in left field. While his production has dropped off in recent weeks, Coghlan still figures to get most of the playing time against right-handed pitchers.

Coghlan will bat leadoff Wednesday against the Red Sox. Coghlan has hit in the leadoff spot just once prior to Wednesday, but Dexter Fowler was moved to cleanup, which is a bit confusing. He's hitting just .214 on the season, so it would be surprising if the leadoff role becomes permanent for him, but it could provide a big boost in his counting stats if it did.

Coghlan is not in the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports. Coghlan typically only sits against lefties, but he'll head to bench Friday as Junior Lake steps in for a rare start against a right-hander (Josh Collmenter). With just 11 hits in 62 May at-bats, Coghlan's average for the season is hovering right around the Mendoza Line at .202. He could be in danger of losing out on more time if he doesn't pick it up soon.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Thursday against the Mets. He has one home run and one stolen base over his last three games, but his average sits at .202 on the season. Matt Szczur will get the start in left field and hit seventh Thursday.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals. Coghlan will sit in favor of Junior Lake in left field against Tyler Lyons, as he did the last time the Cubs faced a southpaw. It looks like the two players will platoon at the position, with Coghlan seeing the lion's share of the starts as the right-handed bat, while Chris Denorfia (hamstring) is out of action.
