Joe Frisaro of MLB.com believes that it's unlikely the Marlins bring back free agent outfielder Chris Coghlan. The 28-year-old and former Rookie of the Year seems unlikely to take a minor league deal, and the Marlins appear to already have an excess of outfield options headed to spring training. The market hasn't been very demanding for Coghlan, so even if it's not with the Fish, he may have to settle for a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.

Marlins non-tendered OF Chris Coghlan. The former Rookie of the Year has put up a .242/.307/.352 batting line in four seasons since winning the award and has had trouble staying healthy. He might have to settle for a minor league deal this winter.

Chris Coghlan went 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot for the Marlins on Monday. Coghlan's audition at third base might be over -- he's made his last two starts in right field in Giancarlo Stanton's place -- but it looks like he'll be in the lineup somewhere the rest of the way. That gives him some value in NL-only leagues. Of course, tonight's 4-for-4 came with no runs scored, RBI or steals.

Marlins activated OF Chris Coghlan from the 15-day disabled list. Coghlan has been sidelined since early June due to calf inflammation and nerve irritation in his back. The former NL Rookie of the Year played nearly exclusively at third base during his minor league rehab assignment, and could get work at multiple positions with the Marlins. He's worth a look in most NL-only formats.

Chris Coghlan (back) will play third base when he begins a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter Wednesday. Coghlan hasn't played the position regularly since 2009 in the minors, but the Marlins have more of a need there than in the outfield. "We'll start his progression and see how he does," manager Mike Redmond said. "We talked about it as an organization and tried to figure out not only where he would fit, but where he could get the playing time." The Fish are hoping to get Coghlan back around September 1.

Chris Coghlan (back) has been cleared to resume baseball activities. While that's good news, Marlins manager Mike Redmond said that it will likely still be a while before Coghlan is cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. The 28-year-old has been sidelined for over a month with nerve irritation in his back and calf inflammation.

Chris Coghlan has been instructed to continue resting his ailing back after visiting with a specialist on Sunday. It's good news, as there had been a possibility that he could require surgery. However, there remains no timetable for Coghlan's return.

Chris Coghlan will be examined this Sunday in Texas by spine and back specialist Dr. Drew Dossett. An MRI taken Tuesday on Coghlan's back revealed a pretty significant strain and the Marlins want to take the correct course of action with his rehab. Coghlan has been on the disabled list since June 9 and is expected to be on the shelf for at least a few more weeks.

An MRI taken Tuesday morning on Chris Coghlan's injured lower back showed a strain. Marlins manager Mike Redmond told reporters that Coghlan is going to be out for "a while." Coghlan was placed on the 15-day disabled list this past weekend.
