Kuhl (3-2) allowed six runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl only allowed four hits Tuesday, but all four of those hits left the ballpark. Wilmer Difo went deep in the third, Bryce Harper ripped a three-run shot in the fifth and Matt Adams slugged a pair of homers. Kuhl had tossed two consecutive quality starts leading up to Tuesday's start but saw his ERA inflate to 5.01 during his rough outing. He'll take on the Brewers in hitter-friendly Miller Park on Sunday.

Kuhl (2-1) picked up the win over the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over six innings while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander threw 58 of 98 pitches for strikes in recording his first quality start of the season. Kuhl's 4.57 ERA and 17:7 K:BB in 21.2 innings are nothing to write home about, but for now his spot in the Pittsburgh rotation seems secure. He'll take on the Tigers at home in his next outing Tuesday.

Kuhl (1-1) took the loss against Miami on Friday, giving up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits, striking out two and walking one in a 7-2 defeat for Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl struck out seven and limited the Reds to two runs in his last start but he's now given up 24 hits through his first 15.2 innings, contributing to an ugly 1.79 WHIP to go along with his 5.74 ERA. Given his inability to keep runners of the bases so far, there are better streaming options out there at this point if you find yourself in need.

Kuhl allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking three and striking out seven across five innings Saturday against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl's final line was improved from his first start of the season, but he worked his way out of a few jams Saturday night to escape having allowed only two earned runs. He has shown the ability to get strikeouts, but to avoid doing major damage to the ratio stats he'll have to limit his walks and hits allowed. Those are skills he has yet to show at the major-league level, and as a result isn't reliable in most mixed league formats.

Kuhl (1-0) allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts over 5.2 innings but still picked up the win Sunday against Detroit in the second leg of a doubleheader.
EDGE Analysis
The key to Kuhl's ability to keep the floodgates from bursting and keep the Pirates in the game was his control. Kuhl didn't allow a single walk, which turned out to be the saving grace to an otherwise mediocre appearance. Kuhl was terrible in spring (10.06 ERA, 2.06 WHIP over 17 innings), so Sunday was at least a step in the right direction.

Kuhl gave up four runs on four hits and two walks while retiring only two batters Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
His composite spring numbers -- 10.06 ERA, 2.06 WHIP, 14:9 K:BB in 17 innings -- don't inspire confidence heading into 2018. Kuhl walked 72 batters in 157.1 innings last season and his control will likely determine his success. The hard-throwing righty is set to pitch the third game of the season in Detroit. While his rotation spot remains secure for now, the team does have several options in case he falters.

Kuhl was tagged for three homers and eight earned runs in 2.1 innings Saturday, He walked three while striking out three batters.
EDGE Analysis
Although he's allowed 11 earned runs in his last two outings (4.2 innings), Kuhl is expected to start 2018 in Pittsburgh's starting rotation. The righty collected 142 strikeouts in 157.1 innings last year, though his earned run average (4.35) and WHIP (1.47) didn't help fantasy owners. Kuhl increased his fastball velocity from 93.2 mph to 95.5 mph from 2016 to 2017. His control suffered, however, with walks jumping from 2.6 BB/9 to 4.1 BB/9. As a result, Kuhl rates as an interesting end-game pick, though he's just as likely to hurt fantasy owners as help.

Kuhl appears to be in line for a rotation spot to start the season, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The hard-throwing righty saw his fair share of struggles last season, but he finished strong by posting a 3.62 ERA and a 9.0 K/9 in the second half of the season. Overall, his lack of command (4.1 BB/9) and propensity to give up hard contact (36.1 percent) make him relatively unattractive for fantasy purposes, but Kuhl seems to have a rotation job on lockdown nonetheless barring any unforeseen events.
