He's got a fine 42:12 K:BB through 56 innings (nine starts) and will take a 4.18 ERA into his next start on Sunday against the Pirates.

His 1.82 BB/9 over 49.1 innings is one of the best in the league, but his 6.93 K/9 is weak. Being a groundball pitcher (1.95 GB/FB) is extremely valuable for a pitcher whose home is Coors Field. Bettis has made eight starts this season, five of which were day games. Interestingly, he is 3-0 with a 3.16 ERA during the day, but 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA at night -- something to consider in daily leagues.

He's holding batters to a .200 batting average against him and is showing poise by bouncing back after tough innings. The 26-year-old is expected to have a higher spot in the Colorado rotation along with Jorge De La Rosa, but if he continues to pitch well, he could even garner the start on Opening Day instead of the left-handed veteran.
