Capps threw 75 pitches from 45 feet on Tuesday and plans on being ready to go for spring training, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Capps underwent Tommy John surgery in early March and continues to ramp up his rehab, putting him on track to be ready for the 2017 season. Capps was recently traded to the Padres in the deal that shipped Andrew Cashner to the Marlins. When healthy, Capps is one of the hardest relievers to hit, owning a .168 batting average against in 2015 with the Marlins.

Capps (elbow) was traded to the Padres on Friday as part of a deal that sends Andrew Cashner to the Marlins, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Capps will not pitch this season and may not even be half way through his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he is a high-upside arm who would be an asset in the Padres' bullpen if everything goes as planned with his recovery. He could be an option to close for his new team at some point next season, depending on how his recovery progresses from here.

Capps was placed on the 60-day DL on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Capps is coming off fresh Tommy John surgery in early March, so this move has been in the cards for quite some time. He'll likely remain on the disabled list the entire season, as Sunday's move was merely a formality to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Capps (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Capps missed the final two months of last season due to an elbow injury, but there was no report of any trouble this spring until he needed an MRI last week. With Dr. James Andrews recently confirming that Capps suffered a torn UCL, the 25-year-old righty will miss the entire 2016 season and may not be ready for the start of 2017. A.J. Ramos now seems all but assured of opening the season as Miami's closer.

Capps, who is out indefinitely with an elbow injury, is set to be examined by Dr. James Andrews, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Capps originally experienced the elbow soreness during preparation for Sunday's live batting practice, which led to an MRI Thursday that returned inconclusive results. He'll now have the injury examined by one of the world's most highly-regarded orthopedic surgeons, who will likely be able to determine whether or not Tommy John surgery will be necessary. At this point in time, the outlook appears bleak for the hard-throwing righty, though Andrews' examination should provide more definitive information.

Capps underwent an MRI on his right elbow this week, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is concerning news for Capps, who battled right elbow issues down the stretch last season before ultimately being shut down in late September. He entered spring training in an open competition with incumbent closer A.J Ramos, so any nagging elbow issues for Capps could hurt his chances at winning the closer's role. The results of the MRI have yet to be released, but according to Spencer's report, Capps will likely seek a second opinion on his elbow.

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said he expects there to be an open competition for the closer job in spring training, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Capps baffled hitters with his dynamic fastball-slider combo and jump-step delivery in 2015, posting a 1.16 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 58:7 K:BB in 30 appearances before an elbow injury ended his season. Incumbent A.J. Ramos is also coming off a stellar season, but can get wild with his control, and will need to put together a strong spring in order to fend off Capps.

Capps (elbow) agreed to a one-year deal with the Marlins on Friday, avoiding arbitration, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
EDGE Analysis
While he won't open the year as the Marlins closer (that honor still belongs to A.J. Ramos), Capps should be drafted in most roto leagues, as his 49.2% K-rate was the best in baseball last year. Health is always a concern with Capps, but as long as he is healthy, and he is expected to be for spring training, his ratios and strikeouts can make a big difference. If Ramos were to struggle or get dealt, Capps would be the obvious replacement option in the ninth inning.

Capps (elbow) will be shut down for the remainder of the season, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Capps appeared to be nearing a return, as he anticipated returning on the team's current home stand, but there just wasn't enough time left in the season. The 25-year-old had by far his best season in the big leagues, posting a 1.16 ERA with a 58:7 K:BB ratio in 31 innings, and figures to be ready by the start of spring training in 2016.

Capps (elbow) is expected to throw one more bullpen session during the Marlins' upcoming home stand before being activated from the disabled list, the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
He tossed a bullpen session Friday without issue and is now on track to get a couple of innings in with the Marlins before the season ends. Regardless of how much work he's able to get in over the final two weeks, 2015 was a success for the up-and-down flame thrower. He's posted a 1.16 ERA and 0.81 WHIP over 31 innings this season with a devastating 58 strikeouts in that time.
