Smith allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts across five innings during a no-decision against the Padres on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Although he wasn't able to extend his winning streak or record another quality start, this was another pretty solid outing for Smith. Since returning from the injured list July 6, he is 2-0 with a 3.71 ERA across three appearances. That ERA is higher than his season ERA, but just prior to hitting the injured list, Smith allowed 11 runs in 13 frames. Overall, Smith is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 101 strikeouts in 83 innings this season. He will pitch next at the White Sox on Tuesday.

Smith (5-4) picked up the win in Friday's 8-4 victory over the Mets, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and five walks over six innings while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw issued free passes in four of his six innings but kept the damage to a minimum, and only a Garrett Cooper throwing error with two outs in the third inning opened the door for the Mets to generate any offense at all against Smith. He'll take a 3.23 ERA and 94:26 K:BB through 78 innings into his next outing Thursday, at home against the Padres.

Smith (4-4) earned the win Saturday against the Braves after surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked one.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's return to action got off to a rocky start with two runs allowed in the first inning and single runs allowed in the second and third frames, but he settled in after that point. The 27-year-old had a good first half of the season with a 3.50 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 88:21 K:BB across 72 innings.

Smith (hip) was recalled from his rehab assignment and reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move makes official what had been reported earlier in the week, as Smith will start Saturday's contest against the Braves. Smith was placed on the injured list June 7, but appears ready for a return as he whiffed 19 batters across 9.1 innings during his two rehab outings. He has a 3.41 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across 66 innings with the Marlins this season.

Smith (hip) is expected to return to the rotation Saturday against the Braves, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith will wind up missing exactly a month if he is indeed cleared to pitch Saturday. He's allowed six runs in 9.1 rehab innings with Double-A Jacksonville but has managed an impressive 19:2 K:BB.

Smith (hip) is expected to be activated from the injured list sometime during Miami's current road trip, which runs until July 7, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith tossed five innings at Double-A Jacksonville on Sunday, so he appears in line to return Friday in Atlanta if all goes according to plan. Upon Smith's activation, Elieser Hernandez could find himself moving back to the bullpen, though the Marlins have yet to determine their rotation plans heading into the All-Star break.

Smith (hip) covered five innings and gave up four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight Sunday in his rehab start for Double-A Jacksonville.
EDGE Analysis
Smith, who was making his second rehab appearance for the affiliate, served up two long balls but was otherwise effective while pushing up his pitch count to 83. The lefty looks ready to rejoin the big-league rotation and could be activated from the 10-day injured list to start either Saturday or Sunday in Atlanta. If that's the case, Smith would likely deny Zac Gallen a second start of the week, though Smith wouldn't necessarily push the rookie out of the rotation. One of Gallen, Elieser Hernandez and Jordan Yamamoto will likely lose his starting job coming out of the All-Star break, however, as manager Don Mattingly said Sunday that a six-man rotation "is not really [an option]," per Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Smith (hip) will make the final start of his rehab assignment Sunday, Craig Mish of FNTSY Sports Radio reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith threw 71 pitches in a rehab start Monday with Double-A Jacksonville, and he will pitch just one more time in the minors -- barring any setbacks -- before rejoining the club. The Marlins have not yet announced when Smith will slot back into the big-league rotation, but he figures to take the ball at some point against the Braves next weekend.

Smith (hip) will make at least one more rehab start before returning from the injured list, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith struck out 11 batters in just 4.1 innings in a rehab start Monday with Double-A Jacksonville, but he evidently needs to increase his pitch count a bit more after throwing just 71 pitches in that outing. He'll likely return near the end of the first week of July if he needs just one more rehab outing.

Smith (hip) struck out 11 and gave up two runs on two hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Monday in his rehab start with Double-A Jacksonville.
EDGE Analysis
Both of the hits Smith allowed were home runs, but he made no other mistakes while pumping in 45 of his 71 pitches for strikes. The elevated pitch count and quality results suggest Smith is ready to come off the 10-day injured list and slot back into the Miami rotation this weekend in Philadelphia, but the Marlins will likely assess the health of his left hip over the next day or two before deciding on his next step.
