Yankees signed 2B Brian Roberts to a one-year, $2 million contract. The deal was agreed to almost a month ago, but the Yankees had to wait for the conclusion of the Alex Rodriguez suspension appeal to officially add Roberts to their 40-man roster. He is taking A-Rod's roster spot and will be in line for a good amount of playing time at second base in 2014. Kelly Johnson is expected to start at third.

The Yankees will sign Brian Roberts to a one-year deal worth $2 million plus incentives, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Morosi's colleague, Ken Rosenthal, first reported news of the Roberts-Yankees marriage on Monday evening. Roberts averaged 152 games played per year and posted a robust .290/.365/.438 slash line between 2004-09, but his career has been wrecked by injuries since. He's averaged just 48 games played per season over the past four years, and posted a sickly .246/.310/.359 line when he's been on the field over that period. New York seems likely to host a second base competition between the 36-year-old Roberts and Kelly Johnson, but counting on Roberts to stay healthy for more than a third of the season is a losing proposition. At least the price was right.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Yankees are likely to sign Brian Roberts. There's no word on the terms, but it'll likely be a one-year deal with a low base salary. Roberts would give the Yanks another option at second base along with Kelly Johnson, as the two could form a platoon following the departure of Robinson Cano. The 36-year-old is obviously a poor bet to stay healthy after averaging just 48 games played over the last four seasons.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees have little interest in free agent second baseman Brian Roberts. It had been reported earlier in the week that the Bombers talked to Roberts' agent, but it appears that the were merely checking in. The oft-injured 36 year-old has averaged only 48 games played over the last four seasons.

Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that the Yankees have talked to Brian Roberts' agent. It's unclear whether they just checked in or have legitimate interest in a deal. Roberts played in 77 games this past season -- his most since 2009 -- but he batted just .249/.312/.392 with eight home runs and 39 RBI over 277 plate appearances. The Orioles haven't ruled out bringing him back, but appear content with internal options.

Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun writes that the Orioles will "explore" re-signing Brian Roberts to a one-year contract. Roberts never played more than 77 games in any season during his four-year, $40 million deal that will expire after the World Series. He managed to stay healthy over the final three months this season, though, and finished strong with five September homers. If he does return, he'd just be keeping second base warm for Jonathan Schoop. Encina also notes that the O's will consider bringing back Nate McLouth on a one-year pact.

Brian Roberts is not in the Orioles starting lineup on Saturday. It's merely a day of rest for the veteran second baseman after Friday's marathon affair against the Rays. Alexi Casilla will get the start at second base and hit ninth for the O's against Alex Cobb.

Brian Roberts has registered consecutive multi-RBI games for the first time since the 2011 season. Roberts is finally healthy and providing a major upgrade at second base for the Orioles. "This is what I've been waiting for, for a long time," the veteran said Sunday. "I've wanted to be able to get out there and play every day and be on a team that's good and in a pennant race." He doesn't steal bases anymore but can still provide sneaky fantasy value down the stretch.

Brian Roberts went 3-for-6 on Wednesday and 7-for-13 in the three-game series against the Diamondbacks. The three-hit game was his first of the season, and he raised his average from .234 to .266 in the series. He's still not providing a lot of fantasy value since he's not a basestealer these days, but he's been an upgrade at second base for the Orioles.

Orioles activated 2B Brian Roberts from the paternity leave list. Roberts was away from the Orioles for a couple of days so he could be present for the birth of his first child. Danny Valencia was optioned back to Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.
