The Yankees will sign Brian Roberts to a one-year deal worth $2 million plus incentives, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Morosi's colleague, Ken Rosenthal, first reported news of the Roberts-Yankees marriage on Monday evening. Roberts averaged 152 games played per year and posted a robust .290/.365/.438 slash line between 2004-09, but his career has been wrecked by injuries since. He's averaged just 48 games played per season over the past four years, and posted a sickly .246/.310/.359 line when he's been on the field over that period. New York seems likely to host a second base competition between the 36-year-old Roberts and Kelly Johnson, but counting on Roberts to stay healthy for more than a third of the season is a losing proposition. At least the price was right.
