Brian McCann (shoulder) could be activated from the disabled list in the next 7-10 days. McCann's rehab stint is expected to carry him through at least the early portion of next week, so he could rejoin the Braves during their road trip in Cincinnati. With Evan Gattis not expected to be optioned and Gerald Laird as depth, he won't be asked to serve as the everyday catcher right away. MLB.com's Mark Bowman says it's possible McCann could see some time in left field.

Brian McCann (shoulder) will serve as the designated hitter Saturday for Low-A Rome. McCann hit a pair of home runs and caught six innings Friday in his first rehab game since being placed on the disabled list. The Braves current plan is for him to play in 10-11 games, before working his way up to Triple-A Gwinnett next week. McCann remains on track for an early May return.

Brian McCann (shoulder) blasted a pair of home runs during his first rehab game with Low-A Rome on Friday. McCann finished the highly productive evening going 2-for-3 with two homers, four RBI and three runs scored. He's expected to remain on the rehab assignment for 10-11 games, working his way up to Triple-A Gwinnett next week. With as well as Evan Gattis has performed, it will be interesting to see how Fredi Gonzalez handles divvying up the playing time once McCann returns.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Friday that Brian McCann (shoulder) could join the team in about two weeks. McCann is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with Low-A Rome. He's expected to play about 10-11 games and will work his way to Triple-A Gwinnett next week. It will be interesting to see what the Braves do with Evan Gattis upon his return, but McCann should be stashed in most fantasy formats.

Brian McCann (shoulder, wrist) is expected to begin catching in extended spring training games on Thursday or Friday. Good news. McCann had his right wrist examined earlier this week in Atlanta, but the issue is described as minor and it shouldn't have an impact on his return from shoulder surgery. Assuming all goes well over the next few days, he could soon be cleared for an official minor league rehab assignment. The Braves are hoping he's ready to return somewhere around the beginning of May.

Brian McCann was in Atlanta earlier this week to have his right wrist examined. McCann complained of tenderness in the wrist, so the Braves didn't want to take any chances. He was originally expected to test his surgically-repaired shoulder behind the plate in extended spring training games later this week, but it's not clear if the wrist will have an impact on his timeline. Evan Gattis and Gerald Laird will continue to fill in behind the plate until McCann is ready to return.

Brian McCann went 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly Tuesday in a minor league game. This was his first rehab game since shoulder surgery in October. He didn't do any catching or running, but he's still moving in the right direction. The expectation is that he'll remain in extended spring training before beginning an official minor league rehab assignment around April 16. He could join the Braves lineup in late April or early May.
