McCann went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
McCann did all of his damage against Rays starter Alex Cobb, going deep in the second and fourth innings. The ball was carrying well at Yankee Stadium on a night that saw seven balls hit into the seats, and the 32-year-old slugger took full advantage while getting a start behind the plate to catch veteran CC Sabathia. He's heating up with three homers in the last three games.

McCann went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
McCann was clearly hungry to prove he belonged in the lineup after sitting for to straight days. Gary Sanchez's emergence behind the plate has forced the veteran into a DH role, but his potent bat should still allow him to see regular playing time. He now has 17 long balls on the season, making him a long shot to reach his 2015 total of 26.

McCann is out of the lineup Monday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
It's a bit strange that McCann is sitting a second straight day, especially with a right-hander in R.A. Dickey on the mound for the opposition, but the veteran will nonetheless cede DH duties to Austin Romine once again. Romine had a solid game Sunday with a 1-for-2, two-RBI performance, so it could just be the case where manager Joe Girardi wants to reward the youngster with another turn in the lineup. McCann should still be viewed as the Yankees' regular DH over the final month of the season.

McCann is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
McCann has been seeing most of his action at DH these days with rookie Gary Sanchez serving as the team's primary catcher, but the veteran will get a breather Sunday after he was behind the plate Saturday night. With McCann on the bench, Austin Romine will handle duties at DH, marking his first start since Aug. 17.

McCann (personal) is back in the lineup Saturday against the Orioles, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCann was away from the team Friday night due to a personal issue, but he's returned to New York and will serve as the designated hitter Saturday. McCann will bat seventh in the order against Baltimore right-hander Dylan Bundy.

McCann is with his family and unavailable for Friday's game against the Orioles, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sadly, McCann's grandmother passed away, so he'll be with his family Friday evening. His status for Saturday's game is uncertain at this point in time, so expect Gary Sanchez to continue starting behind the plate.

McCann is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Yankees have been deploying McCann primarily as a DH lately, but he will be squeezed out Wednesday as Mark Teixeira gets the nod as the designated hitter against righty Hisashi Iwakuma. McCann is hitting .190 with one home run in 67 plate appearances this month, and his playing time may start to shrink down the stretch, especially once rosters expand in September.

Manager Joe Girardi confirmed Wednesday that McCann is no longer the Yankees' primary catcher, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCann had essentially ceded the starting catcher duties to Gary Sanchez prior to Girardi's statement Wednesday, starting just one of the previous 11 games behind the plate, but the Yankees' intentions at the position moving forward are now clear. While McCann figures to catch sparingly the rest of the way, he should still see plenty of action as the designated hitter, which is where he was slotted in seven times over the same 11-game stretch previously referenced. However, the Yankees could be looking to move him to another team as well.

McCann is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCann will head to the bench with lefty Drew Pomeranz due up for Boston, affording Austin Romine an opportunity behind the plate. Gary Sanchez will serve as the designated hitter. McCann is off to a poor start this month (5-for-27) and is batting right around .230 for the third straight season. He cleared waivers with no team willing to take on the $34 million due to McCann over the next two years, so the Yankees are allowed to trade him. If they cannot find a trade partner, the Yankees may opt to scale McCann's at-bats back over the final couple months in order to give Sanchez a longer look.
