Phillips was scratched from Tuesday's spring training game with a stiff neck.
EDGE Analysis
At this point, the exact extent and nature of the injury remains unclear, but the Reds figures to play it cautiously with Phillips. More news should become available if the ailment is anything more than a minor one, but the rebuilding club has already stated they're unlikely to trade the soon-to-be 35-year-old, so if healthy, he'll likely open the season at the keystone and bat in the middle of the order.

The Reds had Phillips batting cleanup when they fielded their projected starting lineup in spring training over the weekend.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips once again would have a lot of RBI opportunities batting behind Joey Votto if this proposed lineup was to hold. The full lineup had Billy Hamilton leading off, followed by Eugenio Suarez, Votto, Phillips, Jay Bruce, Devin Mesoraco, Zack Cozart and either Scott Schebler or Adam Duvall.

The Reds are unlikely to try to trade Phillips again after he turned down two trades this offseason, one with the Nationals and one with the Diamondbacks, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
In both cases the trade broke down when Phillips, who has a full no-trade clause, wanted more money to approve the trade and a deal was not reached. The Reds would like to be able to trade Phillips and play Jose Peraza, but their plans may be put on hold.

The Nationals are "moving on" from Phillips and will instead pursue other options at second base, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cincinnati tried to convince Phillips to waive his no-trade clause after reaching a deal with Washington late Thursday, but it seems either Phillips refused or the Nats grew impatient as negotiations dragged on. Either way, Phillips remains with the Reds for now, but after acquiring Jose Peraza in the Todd Frazier trade, it seems likely the team will continue looking for avenues to move Phillips.

As of late Friday, the Reds still have made no progress toward convincing Phillips to waive his no-trade clause, the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Reds and Nationals agreed to a deal late Thursday that would send Phillips to Washington, presumably for prospects, but Cincinnati still has yet to convince Phillips to OK the trade. It's assumed Phillips will not waive his no-trade clause and keep the terms of his current deal with the Reds, so the team may need to add some money to the existing years on his contract. Playing for a contender and under former manager Dusty Baker are selling points for the Reds, but money talks, and playing time may be a concern for Phillips as well.

Phillips is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips owns an .885 OPS over 30 plate appearances against Cubs starter Dan Haren, who will get the ball Tuesday, but he will not get the chance to face him this time around unless he is summoned for a pinch-hit appearance. Ivan De Jesus will get the start at second base in Phillips' place.

Phillips isn't in Monday's lineup against the Nationals, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips will receive the day game off Monday following a 0-for-4 showing at the plate Sunday. Ivan De Jesus will replace him at second base, batting second for the Reds.

Phillips is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
It looks like just a normal day of rest for Phillips, who has been in the lineup for each of the previous nine games. He'll give way to Ivan De Jesus at second base.

Brandon Phillips went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and three runs batted in Thursday, helping Cincinnati to an 11-0 win over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Phillips has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy owners, already exceeding his 2014 RBI total. The 34-year-old has enjoyed a resurgent year on a dismal Reds team, posting his highest wOBA since 2012. With Eugenio Suarez flourishing as the team's everyday shortstop, and Zack Cozart returning from a knee injury, it will be interesting see if the Reds move Phillips over the off-season.

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is starting at second base and batting leadoff Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks after being held out of the lineup the last two games with a biceps injury, according to the team's official website. The ailment was never considered serious, and Phillips was expected to start after pinch-hitting Friday.
