Phillips (quad) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran second baseman exited Tuesday's game with a quadriceps injury and manager Bryan Price will take the cautious route and hold Phillips out Wednesday. Getting the day off Wednesday will give Phillips an extra day of rest given that the Reds will be traveling Thursday. Tony Renda will fill in at second base Wednesday.

Phillips left Tuesday's game after suffering a quad injury, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
He went 0-for-3 with a walk prior to exiting late in the game. The Reds didn't expand on how serious the quad injury might be, but it was enough to knock him out of Tuesday's contest, getting replaced at second base by Ivan De Jesus. He should be considered day-to-day for now, and his status will be updated prior to Wednesday's game. Tony Renda is up as another potential option at second base if Phillips is forced to miss further time and the team could also recall Jose Peraza if it looks like Phillips is in line for an extended absence.

Phillips went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's win over the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
The Reds keep acquiring potential replacements for Phillips, picking up Dilson Herrera in the Jay Bruce deal, but the 35-year-old just keeps on hitting. Phillips has now strung together five straight multi-hit games, pushing his slash line on the season up to .278/.314/.400 -- which would be his highest SLG since 2012 if he can keep it up.

Phillips went 2-for-4 with two solo homers in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
He continues to knock the cover off the ball, with Saturday's production representing his fourth consecutive multi-hit effort. The pair of round-trippers were Phillips' first homers since way back on May 7, when he closed out a four-game tear that saw him blast five bombs during that span. The 35-year-old is slashing .450/.476/.850 over his first 20 at-bats in August.

Philips went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran infielder got the scoring started on the night, plating Zach Cozart with a first-inning single. It was Phillips' third straight multi-hit effort overall and his fourth RBI over the last three games. The 35-year-old continues to serve as a steady offensive presence in this, his 15th major league season, slashing .271/.308/.380 with 22 doubles, a triple, six homers and 41 RBI.

Phillips went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in Thursday's victory over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
In his 20 games since July 6, Phillips is 27-for-78 (.346) with nine RBI and 10 runs scored, recording at least one hit in 18 of those games. Buying on Phillips' hot streak may not be that foolish of an idea moving forward. He owns a career batting average of .294 in the month of August, that's the second baseman's best mark of any month throughout his 14 years. Also, Phillips has fared well this season against divisional opponents, whom he happens to have a nine-game stretch against beginning Friday. The veteran does however remain on a 71-game stretch without a homer, the longest drought of his career.

Phillips went 0-for-4 in Saturday's loss to the Padres, ending his hitting streak at 16 games.
EDGE Analysis
Even with the hitting streak, Philips' production has dropped off considerably this year. He's hitting .264/.302/.373 with just five stolen bases in 11 attempts, after going 23-for-26 last year. His name hasn't been featured in trade talks ahead of the deadline, but the Reds might still be looking to rest Phillips more for Jose Peraza after the deadline.

Phillips (calf) is in the lineup Tuesday against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
The second baseman missed a few games after straining his right calf, and was pulled in the seventh inning Monday night after aggravating the injury. He is back in the lineup Tuesday, but should still be seen as day-to-day until he has a couple full games under his belt.
