Brandon Inge (groin) played second base Wednesday night in a rehab game at Triple-A Toledo.
Inge is eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday and could certainly be ready to rock by then. He's expected to start at second base against left-handed starters this year for the Tigers.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that Brandon Inge (groin) will start at second base against left-handed pitching.
Inge was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a left groin strain, but he's eligible to return on April 14. Ryan Raburn should still get the majority of the playing time at second base while Ramon Santiago will serve as a backup at both middle infield positions.

Tigers placed INF Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, with a left groin strain.
Inge believed he could be ready by Opening Day, but the Tigers didn't want to take the chance. He is eligible to return on April 14 and fully expects to be ready by then. Infielder Danny Worth and outfielders Andy Dirks and Clete Thomas have officially made the team while Drew Smyly will head down to Triple-A Toledo until he is needed on April 12.

Brandon Inge (groin) may begin the season on the disabled list.
Inge hasn't played since Thursday and skipper Jim Leyland wants to see him make it through a game before committing an Opening Day roster spot to him. Of course, playing in a major league spring training game would rob Detroit of the ability to backdate Inge's disabled list starting date. Because fifth-starter Drew Smyly will make a start at Triple-A Toledo before he's needed to make a start for the Tigers, Inge heading to the DL could mean that Andy Dirks, Clete Thomas and Danny Worth all make the roster. Stay tuned.

Brandon Inge was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to a minor groin injury.
Inge suffered the injury while running out the batter's box when he grounded into a game-ending double play on Thursday. He received treatment Friday and is currently considered day-to-day. The 34-year-old is batting just .180 with a home run and two RBIs in 50 at-bats this spring as he attempts to win playing time at second base.

Brandon Inge homered off John Lannan and walked Saturday against the Nationals.
The Tigers have gone well out of their way to talk up Inge's defense at second base this spring. No doubt they'd love to trade him, though that would involve picking up a significant portion of the $6 million he's still owed. If he stays around, he'll probably be part of the mix at second and he'll play third whenever Miguel Cabrera is put at DH.

Brandon Inge impressed in Saturday's Grapefruit League opener at second base, making according to Tigers manager Jim Leyland "two real good plays."
In his first professional game at the position, Inge dove to snag a liner in the second inning and ranged far to his right in the fourth inning to turn a potential single into a fielder's choice. Leyland is on record as saying Inge "is going to be fine at second base" and the only question with him is whether he'll hit. If he does have a nice spring at the plate, he's a real option to start at second on Opening Day.

Brandon Inge will start at second base during the Tigers' Grapefruit League opener Saturday.
Just in case you didn't think Inge was a real option at the position. Ryan Raburn will start at second Sunday and might still be the favorite to be there on Opening Day, but the Tigers are giving Inge a real shot. John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press says Inge has "looked smooth and confident" at second base so far in camp.
