Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said Thursday that Brandon Inge will get a chance to compete for the starting second base job during spring training. Leyland apparently wants to clinch having the worst infield defense of all-time. While Inge is known as a strong defender at the hot corner, he has never played an inning at second base during his entire professional career. The odds are against the 34-year-old making a smooth transition, but he'll apparently be thrown into the mix with Ryan Raburn, Ramon Santiago and Danny Worth.

Brandon Inge wants to win the third base job outright rather than being in a platoon with Don Kelly. "I love Kelly, I really do, but I'm not looking to platoon," Inge said. "I want to play every day." That's all well and good, but after batting just .197/.265/.283 this past season and being designated for assignment at one point, Inge can't expect to be given the everyday job. "I hope he can play every day at third," said manager Jim Leyland, "because if he is, it means he's producing. But he has to produce."

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn will both start Game 6 of the ALCS. It's no surprise, as Raburn has started every game during the series and Inge has started every game but one. Delmon Young (oblique) is also expected to be fine to start, so Raburn should be in right field.

Brandon Inge singled and belted a game-tying solo homer in the seventh inning of the ALCS Game 4 loss to the Rangers. Inge, the team's ninth-place hitter, was the lone Tiger to post a multi-hit game in the extra innings loss. It's his second multi-hit effort in three postseason starts, though he's still batting just .250 in eight playoff contests.

Brandon Inge belted a walkoff home run Saturday in the Tigers' 3-2 defeat of the Twins. The Tigers have now won eight games in a row and suddenly boast a commanding 10-game lead in the American League Central standings. Inge still has a weak .194/.254/.278 batting line in 89 games this season, but he played the hero on Saturday evening in front of an ecstatic home crowd.

Brandon Inge went 2-for-4 with a home run in his return to the major leagues Saturday against the Indians. Inge was demoted to the minor leagues near the end of July after the Tigers grew tired with his lack of offensive production. He enjoyed some success in a three-week stay at Triple-A Toledo, and then carried that momentum back to big leagues on Saturday night. The 34-year-old veteran is expected to see semi-regular action at third base down the stretch.

Brandon Inge is starting at third base in his return to the Tigers on Saturday. He's healthy after battling a lingering bout with mononucleosis and his time in the minors served him well, as he batted 287/.389/.519 with seven homers in 108 at-bats for Toledo. He's expected to draw plenty of playing time at third base against left-handed pitching and could get some starts against righties, as well. On Saturday, he'll face off against lefty David Huff. Inge posted a .177/.242/.242 slash line before being designated for assignment, so watch his progress carefully.

Tigers recalled 3B Brandon Inge from Triple-A Toledo. Inge's time in the minors served him well, as he batted 287/.389/.519 with seven homers in 108 at-bats for Toledo. He's expected to draw plenty of playing time at third base against left-handed pitching and could get some starts against righties, as well, if his bat stays hot. However, given his .177/.242/.242 slash line before being designated for assignment, we're not betting on it.

The Tigers announced after Friday's game that Brandon Inge would be recalled Saturday. Inge returns after hitting .287/.389/.519 with seven homers in 108 at-bats for Triple-A Toledo. He should immediately take over as the Tigers' third baseman against lefties, and if he hits, he could cut into Wilson Betemit's playing time versus righties. Don Kelly will lose at-bats.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Wednesday that Brandon Inge could get at-bats against left-handed pitching when rosters expand in September. "Hopefully, he'll be able to help us against left-handed pitching, for sure," Leyland said, "and then also be a defensive replacement late in the game, no matter who you play." Inge has turned things around since being designated for assignment last month, batting .298/.402/.538 with seven homers, 19 RBI and a .940 OPS over 28 games with Triple-A Toledo. We're not expecting much from a fantasy perspective, but the 34-year-old at least owns a respectable .793 OPS against southpaws during his major league career. He could be a useful platoon mate for Wilson Betemit down the stretch.
