Tigers sent 3B Brandon Inge outright to Triple-A Toledo. Inge drew a bit of interest on waivers from the Marlins, but no club ever pulled the trigger. He was DFA'd after opening the season with a .177/.242/.242 slash line.

Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the Marlins will not acquire Brandon Inge. The Marlins were the first team to reportedly have interest in the recently designated for assignment veteran, but it appears they're going to ultimately pass on him. A couple other unnamed teams also allegedly have interest in Inge, who has said he'd accept an assignment to Triple-A.

CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that Brandon Inge is drawing interest from the Marlins, as well as two other teams. The Brewers are looking for help at third base, so they would be a potential fit, but it's hard to see Inge being an upgrade for anyone right now after he posted a .177/.242/.242 batting line before being designated for assignment. Inge is willing to accept an assignment to Triple-A Toledo if he isn't traded.

Tigers designated INF Brandon Inge for assignment. Inge hit just .177/.242/.242 in 70 games and the Tigers acquired third baseman Wilson Betemit from the Royals on Wednesday afternoon. The 34-year-old Inge is unlikely to draw much interest from other teams and could wind up with Triple-A Toledo.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland insists he is not benching third baseman Brandon Inge even though Inge was not in the starting lineup for Detroit's first game of the second half against the White Sox on Friday. "Nobody's discarding Brandon Inge," Leyland said. "I hope Brandon Inge is a huge factor the rest of the way out. Nobody's discarding him. But he's struggling right now, and I thought this was my best lineup tonight, and that's what I'm putting in there." The Tigers may not be "discarding" Inge, but hitting just .087 in 46 at-bats since coming off the disabled list, fantasy owners should be.

Brandon Inge is batting just .087 (4-for-46) in 14 games since returning from the disabled list. Inge's struggles at the dish extend back well before his stint on the DL, as his batting line on the year sits at a lowly .186/.253/.255 with one homer and 17 RBI. "(Hitting coach Lloyd McClendon)'s continuing to work on it," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He's trying to raise his hands - at least get his (Inge's) hands to a higher position and away from his body." Although he's unlikely to be benched entirely because he still provides good defense, Inge will continue to lose at-bats to Don Kelly.

Tigers activated 3B Brandon Inge from the 15-day disabled list. Inge has been sidelined for three weeks with mononucleosis. The 34-year-old was batting just .211 with one home run and 12 RBI over 161 at-bats prior to being placed on the disabled list, so he may continue to lose at-bats to Don Kelly at third base.

Brandon Inge (mono) went 2-for-4 with two solo homers Tuesday in his latest minor league rehab game with Triple-A Toledo. Inge is batting .240 (6-for-25) over six games during his rehab stint. The Tigers haven't announced any firm plans, but he could be activated from the disabled list when the team returns home Friday. The 34-year-old third baseman has been sidelined since the first week of June with mononucleosis.
