Bobby Parnell blew the first save of the 2014 MLB season in Monday's loss to the Nationals. Parnell had velocity issues all spring and they didn't suddenly disappear in Monday's regular-season opener. He hit 93 mph at one point, but his fastball mostly sat in the 89-91 mph range and the Nationals were able to take advantage. Attempting to protect a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, Parnell allowed a single to Ian Desmond, a walk to Danny Espinosa, and then Denard Span doubled in the tying run. Jose Valverde looks like a worthwhile add in standard fantasy leagues.

Bobby Parnell might not pitch more than two days in a row in the early part of the season. Parnell is coming back from neck surgery and his velocity isn't all the way there yet, so there's a chance Jose Valverde could get the occasional save chance early in the year. The Mets are surely hoping it won't take long for Parnell to get back to normal.

Bobby Parnell gave up his first run of the spring Tuesday when he surrendered a solo homer to Ryan Zimmerman. Parnell's velocity still isn't all of the way back following neck surgery, but he's been effective anyway with his 1.50 ERA. The Mets are committed to going forth with him in the closer's role.

Bobby Parnell pitched a hitless ninth versus the Cardinals on Monday. Parnell's velocity isn't all of the way back after neck surgery, but it doesn't sound like the Mets have any intention of using someone else to close early on. It's Parnell's job unless he starts struggling in regular-season games.

Bobby Parnell (quad) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Monday. Parnell threw a scoreless inning in a "B" game on Thursday, so he's ready to roll. The reliever is coming off of neck surgery, but it's a tight quad that's slowed his routine in camp. However, it appears that both issues are now behind him, and he should be fine to close on Opening Day if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Bobby Parnell (quad, neck) threw a scoreless inning in a "B" game on Thursday in Mets camp. "Everything felt good," Parnell said afterward. "Coming into it my routine was good and my arm was strong. I felt like I came out there throwing strikes, so I'm happy with it." The right-hander should be ready to close for the Mets on the first day of the regular season. He had an outstanding 2.16 ERA in 50 innings last year.

Bobby Parnell (quad, neck) will throw one inning in a "B" game on Thursday. Parnell suffered a quad injury early on in camp, but he's been throwing off a mound for a little while now and appears past the injury. The closer's surgically-repaired neck also has not been an issue. Parnell should be ready to handle the ninth inning on Opening Day.

Bobby Parnell (quad) threw 36 pitches in a successful batting practice session on Saturday. It marked the first time this spring that the Mets closer has faced live hitters. He came to camp recovering from a herniated disc in his neck, then suffered a minor quad injury while covering first base during an infield drill early in workouts. He's still expected to be fully healthy and ready to go for Opening Day.

Bobby Parnell suffered a minor quad injury while covering first base during a drill Thursday. It sounds like it's no big deal, but the Mets understandably want to be cautious at this point in camp. "Everyone thinks it's very, very mild," pitching coach Dan Warthen said Friday. "He wanted to throw today." Parnell has looked good to this point as he works his way back from surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck.

Bobby Parnell (neck) has pushed back his bullpen session from Thursday to Friday. Parnell, who is coming back from neck surgery, just threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session on Tuesday and simply doesn't want to push it this early in camp. "I'm running off of Bobby 100 percent," said Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen. "He said he feels good, but he's smart enough to tell me if he needs the extra day. I had him scheduled to throw today. He said, 'I can throw, but how about an extra day?'" The Mets aim for Parnell to make his spring debut on March 10, which should give him plenty of time to get ready for the regular season assuming no setbacks.
