Mets manager Terry Collins admitted Tuesday that he's "worried" about whether Bobby Parnell (neck) will be 100 percent for spring training. Parnell underwent surgery earlier this month to repair a herniated disk in his neck. The Mets said after the procedure that he was expected to be ready to go for spring training, but evidently it's not set in stone. Parnell was excellent in his first season as a full-time closer, posting a 2.16 ERA and 1.00 WHIP while converting 22-of-26 save chances.

Mets transferred RHP Bobby Parnell from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. It's a procedural move in order to clear room on the 40-man roster. Parnell is out for the season following surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck.

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that Bobby Parnell will undergo neck surgery on Tuesday in California. The procedure will repair a herniated disk in Parnell's neck, an injury that ended his season in late July. Parnell is expected be fine for the opening of spring training.

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that Bobby Parnell will undergo surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck. Parnell has been sidelined since late July with the issue but had been hoping he could treat it with injections and rest. While he has experienced improvement, it hasn't been enough to avoid an operation. It's not clear how long the rehab will take, but Parnell should be fine for spring training.

Bobby Parnell (neck) remains shut down from baseball activities. Parnell has said that he'll make a decision on possible surgery in mid-September, so it's possible we'll have a resolution with his status this week. The closer has been sidelined since late July with a herniated disc in his neck.

A follow-up exam Monday on Bobby Parnell's neck showed continued improvement. However, it's still up in the air as to whether he'll undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc. Parnell will have another exam in two weeks before he decides whether or not to go under the knife. "I really don't know what to think," Parnell said. "Me personally, I feel like I can get better, and I feel like I'll be better by spring training. I just don't know whether or not it's going to recur again, and that's what I'm more worried about than anything."

Bobby Parnell (neck) said Wednesday that he remains optimistic about returning this season. Parnell, who is dealing with a herniated disc in his neck, is feeling better after a couple weeks of therapy. He's yet to resume throwing, though, and season-ending surgery is still an option. More will be known about his status early next month.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Tuesday that Bobby Parnell's (neck) symptoms "are lessening." Parnell is not, however, ready to begin baseball activities. The closer received an epidural earlier this month for a herniated disk in his neck in hopes that it would speed along the healing process. It appears to have helped some, but the Mets haven't ruled out him eventually needing season-ending surgery.

Bobby Parnell (neck) hopes to avoid season-ending surgery. Parnell is currently dealing with a herniated disk in his neck which is pushing on a nerve and causing discomfort down his arm. He received an epidural on Monday and is prepared to get a similar injection in about a week, after which surgery could be considered if there's no improvement. "I don't want the season to end like this," said Parnell. "I want to get back. But I've got to be smart about it, too. If I go out and re-injure it right quick, it's going to set me back even farther. We'll see how this first shot goes and go from there." Mets manager Terry Collins plans to go with a closer-by-committee during his absence, though veteran LaTroy Hawkins got the save Tuesday night against the Rockies.

Mets placed RHP Bobby Parnell on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 31, with neck stiffness. That's the move to make room for Wilmer Flores on the active roster. Parnell hasn't pitched in a week due to neck discomfort and received a cortisone shot on Monday. He'll be eligible to return late next week, but it's not clear if he'll be ready by then. David Aardsma is the most likely option to fill in at closer, though he has struggled in his most recent appearances.
