The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reports that Bobby Abreu's agent has told the Marlins that his client "would love" to play in Miami. Whether the interest is reciprocal remains to be seen, but Abreu would certainly have a better opportunity at playing time with the Marlins than he would most other places. The 38-year-old held a workout in his native Venezuela last month, with the Red Sox known to have been one of the teams that watched him. However, Boston doesn't plan to sign the veteran outfielder.

According to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox observed Bobby Abreu's workout in Venezuela as "background work" and "nothing more than a scouting assignment." Alex Speier of WEEI.com was first to report news of the Red Sox attending the workout. Lauber speculates that Abreu could make sense as a left-handed-hitting outfielder to split time in left field with Jonny Gomes, but it appears unlikely the Red Sox will sign him.

According to Alex Speier of WEEI.com, Bobby Abreu worked out for the Red Sox in Venezuela. The Red Sox had Abreu go through drills at first base during the workout, though it was likely just a matter of due diligence. The 38-year-old has never played first base during his 17-year major league career. He'll likely have to settle for a minor league deal after batting just .242 with three homers and a .693 OPS in 257 plate appearances in 2012.

Bobby Abreu has been placed on Triple-A Albuquerque's disabled list with a sprained ankle. It's likely just a day-to-day ailment for the veteran. Abreu accepted a minor league assignment last week and will return to the Dodgers next month, assuming he's healthy.

Dodgers sent OF Bobby Abreu outright to Triple-A Albuquerque. Abreu cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will attempt to continue his career with the Dodgers. It's highly likely that he'll be back later this season, but in nothing more than a reserve role.

Dodgers designated OF Bobby Abreu for assignment. The move clears a spot for the newly-acquired Shane Victorino, who will take over the starting left field job. Abreu, 38, is hitting just .246/.347/.340 with two home runs and a .687 OPS in 236 plate appearances this season. While he's clearly on the decline, he figures to draw some interest as a lefty bench bat.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Thursday that Bobby Abreu could be used out of the leadoff spot. It's actually not a terrible idea. While Abreu obviously doesn't have the speed of Dee Gordon (thumb), he has a .396 on-base percentage for his career and is getting on base at a .356 clip this year. With his power on the decline, he'll likely be more useful batting leadoff than the middle of the order.

Bobby Abreu punished his former team by hitting a three-run homer Friday against the Angels. The Angels won anyway, so they were probably OK with the homer. While Abreu is hitting .297 with a .409 OBP in 111 at-bats for the Dodgers, the Angels didn't really have the at-bats for him anyway.

Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple, a double and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Padres. Abreu is now hitting .314 (11-for-35) with five doubles, one triple and five RBI since signing with the Dodgers earlier this month. While the 38-year-old is nearing the end of his career, he should continue to be relevant in deeper mixed leagues while Matt Kemp and Juan Rivera are sidelined with hamstring injuries.

Bobby Abreu went 1-for-2 with a three-run double in Sunday's win over the Rockies. Abreu came on in left field after Matt Kemp (hamstring) left. The 38-year-old is off to a hot start with the Dodgers, hitting .318 with four RBI in his first nine games. There's not much upside here, but he'll see regular playing time if Kemp misses time.
