CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Phillies have agreed to a deal with Bobby Abreu.
Abreu, who turns 40 in March, will presumably receive a minor league deal with a spring training invite. He didn't play professionally last season, but the Phillies were encouraged by his performance in the Venezuelan Winter League and view him as a potential left-handed bench bat.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com hears from multiple baseball sources that the Phillies are "sniffing around" on Bobby Abreu.
Abreu has impressed during his time in the Venezuelan Winter League and the Phillies are now considering him as a lefty bench bat. Of course, the soon-to-be 40-year-old previously played with Philadelphia from 1997-2006. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. confirmed that the club has scouted him and have received "decent" reports.

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians are "not all that interested" in Bobby Abreu.
Tony Lastoria of IndiansBaseballInsider.com said Monday that the Tribe were courting Abreu, but FOX Sports' Jon Morosi tweeted Tuesday afternoon that an offer hadn't yet been made and now Hoynes is reporting that there's not even interest. Abreu, 39, did not play affiliated ball in 2013 and will likely continue to struggle to find a landing a spot for 2014.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Indians do have interest in Bobby Abreu, but have yet to make an offer.

Tony Lastoria of IndiansBaseballInsider.com reports that the Indians are "very interested" in signing Bobby Abreu.
Lastoria says the Tribe has been monitoring Abreu in the Venezuelan Winter League and discussed a possible deal with him. However, it remains to be seen if they'll still have interest (or Abreu will have interest in them) following the signing of Jeff Francoeur. The 39-year-old Abreu didn't play anywhere in 2013 but is batting .322/.416/.461 in Winter Ball.

Bobby Abreu blasted a grand slam on Saturday, leading Caracas to an 11-1 victory over La Guaira in playoff action in the Venezuelan Winter League.
The blast was Abreus' third in three postseason games to go along with eight RBI. In 50 games during the season, the 39-year-old outfielder slashed .322/.416/.461 with three homers and 28 RBI. He's hoping to parlay his winter league success into a contract offer, as he believes he has a lot to offer and can still help a major league team. He was unable to land an offer last offseason, and will likely have to settle for a minor league deal if a team is willing to take a chance on him.

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, Bobby Abreu plans to play winter ball in hopes of making a comeback in 2014.
Abreu failed to land a contract this winter, so he is currently focusing on business ventures in his native Venezuela, but he's not ready to turn the page on his playing career. "Bobby still thinks he has something left to offer," said Abreu's agent, Peter Greenberg. "He still thinks he can help somebody, and he has some personal milestones that would probably be nice to cross." Abreu, who turns 40 next March, needs 13 home runs and one stolen base to be a 300-400 man for his career. He might be hard-pressed to get that opportunity.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman writes that the Orioles "wouldn't be a bad fit" for Bobby Abreu.
Abreu has struggled to attract interest in free agency this offseason and it remains to be seen if any team is willing to take a chance on him. The 39-year-old batted just .242/.350/.342 in 257 plate appearances between the Dodgers and Angels this past season, and is doubtful to make an impact even if he manages to land a semi-regular role in 2013.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman lists the Marlins and Rays as "a couple possibilities" for Bobby Abreu.
Abreu has struggled to attract interest on the open market after batting just .242/.350/.342 in 257 plate appearances between the Dodgers and Angels this past season. He wouldn't be a bad guy to give a minor league deal to, though, and there could be playing time available both in Miami and Tampa.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe confirms that the Red Sox are unlikely to pursue free agent Bobby Abreu.
The Red Sox were among the teams that watched Abreu workout in his native Venezuela last month, but Cafardo expects them to look elsewhere for a left-handed hitting outfielder to split time with Jonny Gomes. After batting just .242/.350/.342 in 257 plate appearances between the Dodgers and Angels this past season, Abreu has struggled to attract interest on the open market. It's fair to wonder if any team is still willing to take a chance on him at this point. The Miami Herald reported earlier in the week that Abreu "would love" to play for the Marlins.
