Bartolo Colon had mixed results against the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing two runs on six hits over his four innings of work.
He displayed good command on the afternoon, issuing zero walks while striking out three. All of the damage came in the first inning, then Colon settled down and cruised through his final three frames. The veteran right-hander still has to serve a five game suspension once the season begins, and will face serious pressure from youngsters Dan Straily and A.J. Griffin if he wants to maintain his spot in the A's rotation.

Bartolo Colon was shelled for five earned runs in two innings Tuesday against the Royals.
Colon surrendered seven hits -- including a solo home run -- in the ugly Cactus League outing. The 39-year-old right-hander will hope for better results next time out. He has five games remaining on last year's PED suspension, so he'll have an extra week to get tuned up.

Bartolo Colon registered a 4.61 ERA over four starts with Aguilas Cibaenas of the Dominican Winter League.
But he fanned 13 batters and issued just one walk in 13 2/3 innings. A's assistant GM David Forst said Colon "looked good in all four of his starts, based on reports." The 39-year-old right-hander inked a one-year, $3 million free agent contract with Oakland in early November.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Bartolo Colon's deal is worth more than $5 million if he hits all his incentives.
Colon will receive a $3 million base salary and an incentives package that could push the deal to between $5 million and $6 million. General manager Billy Beane said the return of Colon is "independent" of whether free agent Brandon McCarthy is re-signed. McCarthy has reportedly drawn interest from "numerous" teams.

Athletics re-signed RHP Bartolo Colon to a one-year contract.
Terms of the contract have yet to be disclosed. The 39-year-old right-hander pitched extremely well for the A's this past season, posting a 10-9 record, 3.43 ERA and 91/23 K/BB ratio over 152 1/3 innings before being hit with a 50-game PED suspension in August. He still has five games to be served on that suspension at the start of the 2013 campaign.

Bartolo Colon received six stitches after being hit in the chin by a line drive Sunday during a Dominican Winter League game.
No fracture was found, so things could have been much worse. Colon, an impending free agent, posted a 3.43 ERA and 91/23 K/BB ratio over 152 1/3 innings with the A's prior to his 50-game PED suspension in August.

MLB.com's Andrew Simon reports Bartolo Colon was taken to the hospital after being struck by a line drive in a Dominican Winter League game Sunday.
The news was first reported by Carlos Almanzar of ESPN Radio. Colon, a free agent after this season, went 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA for Oakland in 2012. The 39-year-old is currently serving a 50-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

The San Francisco Chronicle doesn't expect Bartolo Colon to return next season.
As much was assumed when Colon was suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Oakland has no shortage of starting pitching options with four of their top five starters under team control. Colon, 39, will likely be forced to continue his career elsewhere on a non-guaranteed contract.

Bartolo Colon's agent, Adam Katz, told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that his client continues to throw and hopes to return when his 50-game suspension is over.
Colon was suspended in late August for testing positive for Testosterone. The 39-year-old right-hander would be eligible to return 10 games into a potential postseason run, but the A's are unlikely to give him a roster spot.

MLB suspended Bartolo Colon 50 games for testing positive for Testosterone.
This confirms a report by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Colon is the second player in the past week to be suspended for elevated levels of Testosterone, joining Melky Cabrera of the Giants. The A's only have 40 games left, so the suspension will rule him out for the rest of the regular season. Colon has been an important part of the A's rotation, but with Brett Anderson back from Tommy John surgery, Dan Straily in the minors and A.J. Griffin making progress from a shoulder strain, the team has the proper depth to hang around.
