Gomber signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Aug. 26.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber was cut loose by Colorado in late August after posting a 7.49 ERA and 1.72 WHIP across 57.2 innings. He'll now aim to right the ship with the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate in Iowa, though it's unlikely he gets a chance with the big club before the end of the regular season.

The Rockies unconditionally released Gomber on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber's five-season stay in Colorado is over. The 31-year-old posted a career-worst 7.49 ERA and 1.72 WHIP with just 34 strikeouts across 57.2 innings with the Rockies this season, but the left-hander may produce better results if he finds a new home closer to sea level.

The Rockies placed Gomber on outright waivers Wednesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given his $6.35 million salary, Gomber is a good bet to clear waivers. The 31-year-old has been roughed up across 11 major-league starts this season, posting an 0-7 record, 6.75 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 54.2 innings of work. Following a loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday, Gomber sounded like a defeated pitcher. "I feel like I'm in a tough spot right now, I felt like I let the team down," Gomber said. "I feel like I'm a little bit lost out there right now. I don't really have any confidence, conviction. I don't have an identity of what I'm trying to do." Colorado could opt to just cut Gomber loose should he clear waivers.

Gomber (0-7) yielded seven runs on nine hits and two walks over three innings Tuesday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
The Dodgers jumped on Gomber early and often. Alex Call and Shohei Ohtani both hit solo homers in the second inning, and Gomber has now given up multiple home runs in four straight outings, posting a 9.95 ERA during that span. His season ERA is up to 7.49 to go alongside a 34:17 K:BB through 57.2 frames. Still looking for his first win in 2025, Gomber is expected to start in Pittsburgh this weekend.

Gomber did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
It was another tough outing for Gomber, who's given up two home runs in each of his last three starts -- Lars Nootbaar led off the fourth inning with a long ball Wednesday before Alec Burleson added a two-run shot in the fifth. Gomber remains without a win in 11 starts this season -- he's 0-6 with a 6.75 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 54.2 innings. The lefty will look to turn things around in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Dodgers.

Gomber (0-6) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings to take the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber got into trouble early, allowing a three-run double to Blaze Alexander in the first inning. Alexander added a solo shot in the fourth and Corbin Carroll tacked on a two-run homer in the fifth to account for the rest of the damage on Gomber's line. It continues to be a tough season for the southpaw, who has now lost five of his last six starts, though this was his longest outing of the year. He's at a 6.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB through 49.2 innings over 10 starts. He is projected to make his next start at St. Louis.

Gomber allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out five across five innings during Saturday's game against the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
All four of the runs Gomber gave up came courtesy of two homers by Liover Peguero in the first and fourth frames. Gomber managed to limit the other Pittsburgh hitters and avoided a fifth-straight loss after the Rockies came alive with six runs in the sixth. Gomber has struggled since being returning from a left shoulder injury in June, and the southpaw now sits at a 6.18 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 27:11 K:BB across 43.2 innings this season. He's slated to start against the Diamondbacks on the road next weekend, when he'll aim to earn his first win of the 2025 campaign.

Gomber (0-5) was charged with the loss Sunday against the Orioles, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks across 4.1 innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
It was another tough day for Gomber, who's now allowed four or more runs in three of his last four starts. The left-hander's ERA is up to 6.28 through eight starts (38.2 innings) this season with a 1.66 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB. Gomber will look to turn things around in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week at home against the Pirates.

Gomber (0-4) took the loss against St. Louis on Monday, allowing five runs on 11 hits and no walks while striking out six batters over 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Gomber got through three scoreless frames before the Cardinals scored twice against him in the fourth. St. Louis struck for another run in the fifth, and Gomber entered the sixth inning trailing 3-2. The southpaw was unable to make it out of the sixth, as the Cardinals put up two more runs against him on four singles (two of which didn't leave the infield). Gomber is still looking for his first victory of the campaign, and he's taken the loss in each of his past three starts. On a positive note, Gomber's 5.2 frames and six punchouts Monday were both season-high marks, so he at least appears to be healthy after missing over two-and-a-half months to begin the campaign due to a shoulder issue.

Gomber (0-3) took the loss Sunday, allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings in a 4-2 defeat against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander's outing got off to a rocky start, as he served up a leadoff homer to TJ Friedl on just his fourth pitch of the game. Gomber managed to limit the damage from there but was yet again unable to make it past the fifth inning. This marked only his sixth start on the season after recovering from a shoulder injury, and through those outings, he's posted a 5.65 ERA while surrendering six home runs and has yet to find a consistent groove.
