Triggs (hip) was able to play catch Monday and Tuesday, but it has yet to be determined if he'll require season-ending surgery to address his injury, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The catch sessions have been little more than tests to see how his hip responds to the activity, so even if Triggs is able to steer clear of surgery, it will still likely be several weeks before he ramps up his throwing program. Triggs has been out for just under a month and will remain without a definitive return timetable until a verdict on surgery is rendered.

Triggs may need hip surgery, which would end his 2017 season, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Triggs has been out since early June with a left hip strain while the MRI revealed structural damage, including a tear in the labrum. The team is still hopeful that Triggs will respond positively to the cortisone shot that he received two weeks ago, but it hasn't had the immediate impact that the right-hander wanted. If he does indeed undergo surgery, he would likely recover in six months, giving him ample time to rehab before spring training.

Triggs (hip) is expected to receive a cortisone shot early next week, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Triggs apparently is still dealing with some lingering pain in his hip, so the Athletics will have him receive a shot with the hope of calming things down. It's unclear how this will affect his timeline for return, although it seems unlikely that he'll be able to return until July unless he goes through his recovery program quickly.

Triggs' MRI showed some structural damage to his hip, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Bob Melvin said it's unclear if the damage is new or old, but regardless, Triggs is now facing an uncertain timetable after it was initially believed he may only miss one or two starts. Making matters worse, Triggs is also dealing with some back issues. He was off to a brilliant start to 2017, but the right-hander imploded for 15 combined runs in his two most recent outings before landing on the DL.

Triggs (hip) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matt Olson, one of Oakland's top prospects, was recalled in a corresponding move after Triggs landed on the DL with a hip strain. Triggs was hit hard Friday, allowing eight earned runs over just 3.2 innings, marking his second straight outing with at least six earned runs allowed in under 4.0 innings. He'll be on the shelf for the time being as his hip mends and it's unclear how long Triggs will need to be on the disabled list. The A's will likely need to make another roster move later in the week to fill Triggs' rotation spot.

Triggs (5-6) was tagged for eight runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings in Friday's 13-4 loss to the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
The wheels have completely come off for Triggs, who now has a 9.64 ERA, 2.09 WHIP and 3.4 HR/9 over his last four starts, all losses. His next trip to the mound is scheduled for Wednesday in Miami, but don't be surprised if the A's consider making a change before then.

Triggs (5-5) coughed up six runs on nine hits and a walk over 3.2 innings while striking out three in Friday's 13-3 loss to the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up only one homer in his first 40.2 innings on the season, Triggs has begun having trouble keeping the ball in the park, serving up at least one home run in each of his last four starts including two Friday. Things may not get any easier for him in his next trip to the mound as he takes on the Blue Jays at home Wednesday.

Triggs (5-4) allowed six runs -- just one earned -- on six hits and a walk while striking out three batters during Sunday's loss to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
A few timely errors led to five unearned runs and a loss for Triggs. The Yankees are the highest-scoring team in the American League, so giving them additional chances won't often end well. Triggs has now lost consecutive games after allowing five earned runs to the Red Sox last Sunday. Overall it's been a solid start to 2017, as he's posted a 3.39 FIP and 1.14 WHIP for the season, which highlights that there's some sustainability to his sterling 2.64 ERA. Still, it isn't out of the question to fade the youngster against daunting opponents. His upcoming date with the Nationals likely qualifies.

Triggs (5-3) gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in Sunday's 12-3 loss to the Red Sox. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Although he managed to notch his second-highest strikeout total of the season, the Red Sox also made plenty of contact against Triggs, equaling the most hits against him in 2017. They got to the right-hander early with a pair of runs in the first, and Mitch Moreland capped off the scoring against him with a 435-foot two-run shot to left in the sixth. Triggs also issued multiple walks for the third consecutive start and fifth time overall this season. He'll look to get back in the win column in a tough road matchup versus the Yankees on Friday.

Triggs (5-2) pitched six strong innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four in a no-decision Tuesday against Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander allowed a first-inning solo home run to Nelson Cruz, then proceeded to shutout the Mariners for the remainder of his start. Triggs' start to the campaign is one of the most surprising stories through the early going. He ranks in the AL's top-10 for wins, ERA (2.12) and WHIP (1.03) through eight starts. The 28-year-old sophomore will look to prove he's no flash in the pan when Triggs toes the rubber for his next start Sunday against Boston.
