Alex Colome will make a spot start for the Rays on Saturday afternoon against the Yankees.
Colome struck out seven batters and allowed just one unearned run over 5 2/3 innings in his major league debut last month versus the Marlins. He's sure to have a tougher time navigating the Yankees' lineup but still makes for a decent streamer in deep mixed leagues.

Rays optioned RHP Alex Colome to Triple-A Durham.
Colome was terrific in his major league debut Thursday, striking out seven over 5 2/3 scoreless innings against the Marlins. Alex Cobb (fingernail) is expected to be ready to start Tuesday, though, so the Rays no longer need Colome. He could get another shot if Chris Archer struggles.

Alex Colome surrendered just an unearned run over 5 2/3 innings and struck out seven Marlins to earn a win in his major league debut Thursday.
Marlins is the key word there; Colome had faced similarly talented lineups in the minors. It'll be interesting to see what the Rays do now; they have Chris Archer coming up to start Saturday and they could send Colome down to make room for him. Colome, though, made a case to stay in the rotation in David Price's place with his performance tonight.

Alex Colome will make his major league debut on Thursday against the Marlins.
Alex Cobb is dealing with a fingernail issue, so he's been pushed back. With Jake Odorizzi optioned, Colome could possibly stick around if he pitches well. He's not a bad streaming option against the horrid Marlins lineup.

Rays recalled RHP Alex Colome from Triple-A Durham.
He'll replace Jake Odorizzi on the active roster and will provide some bullpen depth over the next few days. The Rays are expected to turn to either Alex Torres or Chris Archer to start Saturday against the Indians.

Rays optioned RHPs Alex Colome and LHPs Frank De Los Santos and Mike Montgomery to Triple-A Durham; optioned LHP Enny Romero to Double-A Montgomery; optioned LHP Felipe Rivero to High-A Charlotte; reassigned RHPs Matt Buschmann and Marquis Fleming and LHP Adam Liberatore to minor league camp.
No surprises here. Colome is the most highly-regarded of the bunch while Montgomery was acquired from the Royals over the winter as part of the big James Shields deal.

Rays recalled RHP Alexander Colome from Triple-A Durham.
Colome still has his control issues, but overall he had a nice year between Double- and Triple-A, posting a 3.44 ERA with 90 strikeouts over 91 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old could see the majors sometime in 2013.

Colome allowed one run across four innings over three Grapefruit League appearances. The 23-year-old was added to the Rays' 40-man roster in November after posting a 3.82 ERA and 123/72 K/BB ratio over 157 2/3 innings between High-A and Double-A last season. He was ranked as the organization's No. 5 prospect by Baseball America during the offseason.
