Rays optioned RHP Alex Colome to Triple-A Durham. The move comes as a bit of a surprise as he was a candidate for the final spot in the Rays rotation with Jeremy Hellickson beginning the season on the disabled list. He appeared in just one game for the Rays this spring, working a scoreless inning while allowing one hit.

Alex Colome (elbow) said Friday that he's "ready to go." Colome was shut down last June due to a strained elbow, but he feels fine after a long period of rest. The young right-hander will compete for the final spot in the Rays' rotation following Jeremy Hellickson's injury but will most likely begin the year at Triple-A.

The Rays expect Alex Colome (elbow) to be 100 percent for spring training. Colome missed the final three months of last season due to a strained elbow, but he didn't require surgery and will enter spring training with no limitations. The young right-hander should begin next season in the Triple-A rotation.

Rays activated RHP Alex Colome from the 60-day disabled list. Colome missed the last three months of the season due to a strained elbow, though he didn't end up needing surgery. As long as he's healthy, he'll likely begin next year in the Triple-A rotation.

Alex Colome is likely headed to the disabled list with Triple-A Durham due to a mild elbow strain. No word on how long he'll be sidelined. Colome was sent down to Triple-A over the weekend after he allowed seven runs (four earned) in 10 1/3 innings over two starts while filling in for David Price.

Alex Colome pitched decently in Friday's loss to the Tigers, allowing four runs on four hits over his six innings of work. Colome walked two and struck out two on the evening. If it weren't for Miguel Cabrera, Colome would've had a much more enjoyable evening. Cabrera had three of the four hits against him, including a two-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in the third. He'll look for better results when he takes on the Astros in Houston on Wednesday.

Alex Colome will remain in the Rays' rotation and start Friday against the Tigers. Colome will stick around after he surrendered three unearned runs over 4 1/3 innings in a start against the Yankees on Saturday. He'll be followed by Chris Archer and Jeremy Hellickson this weekend.

Alex Colome surrendered three unearned runs over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Saturday. Colome gave up five hits and five walks, so he exhausted his pitch count pretty early. Things could have been much worse, but Colome worked out of a jam in the third inning and Alex Torres snuffed out a potential rally when he entered the game in the fifth. It's unclear whether Colome will get another turn in the rotation.
