Loup is likely to slot into the setup man role with Brett Cecil named as the closer and Aaron Sanchez likely to move into the starting rotation.
Loup is having a pretty solid spring, giving up two earned runs across five innings. He had a strong year last season, pitching 68.2 innings with a 3.15 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP while striking out 56. With low strikeout totals, Loup's fantasy value is tied to whether or not he gets a chance to close, which as of the start of the season doesn't look like it will happen. In deeper leagues, he may be worth stashing in case Cecil runs into trouble as a closer.

Loup is among the candidates to close for the Jays if Aaron Sanchez is used as a starter to begin the season, the Blue Jays' official site reports. Most likely, Brett Cecil will close if the Jays don't bring in a veteran option, while Loup would take on a more prominent setup role. Still, the job is relatively wide open depending on the decision regarding how Sanchez will be used. Loup's walk rate spiked last season (from 4.6% in 2013 to 10.6%), and he may be better suited as a setup option anyway given his sub-20.0% strikeout rate (career 6.9 K/9).

Aaron Loup retired the only batter he faced to record his second save in as many days in Sunday's win over the Rangers.
Loup got a save Saturday because Casey Janssen was sick. He got one Sunday because he bailed Janssen out of trouble after the closer allowed a run on three hits before exiting with two men on. Loup induced a game-ending pop-up by former Jay J.P. Arencibia to seal the win. Janssen obviously has plenty of job security, but Loup is looking like one of the next men in line when the situation dictates it.

Aaron Loup tossed a perfect ninth inning Saturday against the Rangers for his third save of the season.
Casey Janssen was unavailable after he lost seven-plus pounds during the All-Star break, which he believes he caught via a virus or food poisoning while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. He might need another day or two to get his strength back, so Loup isn't a bad short-term option if you are desperate for saves in fantasy leagues.

Aaron Loup recorded the final two outs of the tenth inning, earning his second save of the season as the Blue Jays defeated the Phillies 6-5 on Tuesday.
The Jays removed the struggling Sergio Santos from the closer's role recently and the lefty Loup got the save chance on Tuesday, retiring the left-handed Chase Utley and Ryan Howard for his fourth career save. Loup has not exactly been reliable, as he owns a 13/9 K/BB ratio in 16 innings, but he figures to get at least some of the upcoming save opportunities for the Jays until Casey Janssen returns following an oblique injury.

Aaron Loup will serve as the Blue Jays' closer on Saturday night against the Pirates.
Sergio Santos was removed from the role after blowing his third save of the season on Friday night. Loup, 26, owns an impressive 2.62 career ERA and 1.04 career WHIP. He has the goods to hold down the job until Casey Janssen (oblique) returns from the disabled list.

After Casey Janssen pitched a scoreless 10th in a tie game, Aaron Loup earned a save with a perfect 11th inning Sunday against the Padres.
Janssen notched the win after the Jays went ahead in the top of the 11th. Loup now has two saves this year, though that doesn't necessarily make him the fallback to Janssen in the Toronto pen. Steve Delabar would likely be the better bet for saves.

Aaron Loup has been a bright spot in Toronto's bullpen, tallying a 2.55 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 24 2/3 innings.
Over the past two years, he's given the Jays a 2.60 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 55 1/3 innings. Toronto doesn't trust him much in high-leverage situations, however, which is why he only has four holds in 2013 and 10 in his career.
