The Tampa Bay Times reports a belief that Kellen Winslow wouldn't "fully accept" new Bucs coach Greg Schiano's hard-nosed style was "widely believed" to be a factor in his trade to the Seahawks. Schiano is adopting an absolute-power approach in Tampa, and clearly didn't think Winslow would abide. Of course, it surely didn't hurt that Winslow's playmaking ability has all but evaporated while his guaranteed money had already been paid. It will be extremely interesting to see how Schiano's heavy-handed approach translates from the Big East to the big leagues.

One NFL personnel source tells Thesidelineview.com's Adam Caplan that his team put the brakes on pursuing a trade for Kellen Winslow after reviewing his 2011 game film. "We just didn't think he could be more than a rotational player at this point (in his career) after examining his tape and performance," said the personnel source. That opinion was obviously the majority around the league, as Winslow fetched just a seventh-round pick entering his age-29 season. After six knee surgeries, Winslow's playmaking ability has all but evaporated.

Seahawks acquired TE Kellen Winslow from the Buccaneers in exchange for a conditional 2013 seventh-round pick. The pick can upgrade to a sixth-rounder based on Winslow's performance. Tampa Bay did well to get anything for Winslow, who has creaky knees and played last season with a hitch in his gait. He would have been released if Seattle hadn't made a trade offer. Winslow, who turns 29 before the coming season, finished 2011 with 75 catches for 763 yards and two touchdowns. His playmaking ability has been dwindling several years running, and he's now going to a run-first offense to compete for snaps behind Zach Miller. Winslow may help Seattle in a limited role, but his fantasy value will be scant in 2012.

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times has seen no indications that the Bears are interested in Kellen Winslow. The Winslow-to-Bears rumors are hot and heavy after the team was reportedly in talks with Tampa Bay about a potential trade during this year's free agency period. Winslow would bring experience to Chicago, but he's a poor run blocker and his knees are quickly wearing down. With Kellen Davis, Matt Spaeth, and rookie Evan Rodriguez, the Bears are likely set at the position.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs are expected to release Kellen Winslow and sign free agent Dallas Clark "probably sooner than later." Per beat writer Stephen Holder, "odds are good" the Bucs will find no takers for Winslow's contract, and he'll be cut rather than traded. The Bears are tentatively expected to have interest in Winslow, who could play a Tony Scheffler-like role in Mike Tice and Jeremy Bates' offense. Clark would likely be a 12-20 snap-per-game player in Tampa, seeing the field strictly on passing downs.

The Chicago Tribune reports the Bears and Bucs discussed a Kellen Winslow trade following the start of free agency. More specifically, the Bucs were "were working to trade" Winslow to the Bears. It appears Chicago was more focused on closing its deal for Brandon Marshall. The Bears used a fourth-round pick on TE Evan Rodriguez, but are still one of the league's thinner teams at tight end. If they're at all interested in Winslow, however, it's more likely they'd wait for him to be released than trying to acquire him.

Kellen Winslow says he's been informed by Bucs coach Greg Schiano that he's "not wanted" in Tampa Bay, and that the team will help him engineer a trade. Winslow says problems arose after he decided to work out on his own this offseason (as usual), even though he insists the Bucs never told him it would be an issue. In reality, Winslow was always unlikely to be back. All of the guarantees from the six-year, $36.1 million deal he signed in 2009 have been paid, while he was thoroughly un-dynamic on the field last season. Winslow likely would have been a toxic match with the hard-nosed Schiano. He'll be released if the Bucs don't find a trade partner in short order.

Kellen Winslow was absent for the beginning of Bucs OTAs on Tuesday. A reason hasn't been provided for Winslow's absence from the "voluntary" workouts, but it's possible he's dissatisfied with his contract, or is perhaps even sensing his release. None of Winslow's $3.3 million 2012 salary is guaranteed, while the Bucs could free up $4.8 million in cap space by cutting him loose. Of course, there's also a chance Winslow is simply taking it easy on his famously creaky knees.

The NFL announced Monday that it has increased offseason roster sizes from 80 players to 90 players. This change had been in the works for some time, and it's likely teams fully anticipated it. The NFL will require teams to cut 90-man rosters to 75 after the third preseason game, and down to the usual 53 before Week 1. The change to 90-man rosters becomes effective at 4PM ET on Tuesday.

The Bucs would take a $0 cap hit if they released Kellen Winslow. Winslow has already been paid the $20.1 million guaranteed by the six-year contract he signed in 2009, which did not include a signing bonus. Signing bonuses are typically pro-rated over the life of a contract. Coming off a 75/763/2 season, Winslow is currently set to make $3.3 million in 2012.
