Tim Stauffer (elbow) will make a rehab start with High-A Lake Elsinore Sunday. Stauffer was cleared for the outing after throwing another bullpen session Thursday without any issues. Expect the right-hander to make at least a couple rehab starts before rejoining the Padres rotation in early- to mid-May.

Tim Stauffer (elbow) could make a rehab start with High-A Lake Elsinore Sunday. Stauffer had another successful bullpen session Tuesday and will have another one Thursday. If it goes well, he'll likely be cleared to start for Lake Elsinore. The right-hander will probably need a couple rehab starts before rejoining the Padres rotation in early May.

Tim Stauffer (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday. If all goes well, the next step would be a 40-50 pitch simulated game on Tuesday. Barring any setbacks in either of those appearances, and he could be headed for a rehab assignment by the end of the week.

Tim Stauffer (elbow) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled to throw another one this weekend. It was the first time since his elbow injury that he was able to throw off a mound. Stauffer is coming along, but he's still at least a couple of weeks away from activation. Anthony Bass or Joe Wieland will be booted from the rotation once Stauffer is ready.

Tim Stauffer (elbow) is scheduled to play catch Wednesday for a second straight day. Stauffer was placed on the disabled list at the start of the regular season with a right elbow strain. Padres manager Bud Black told reporters Wednesday afternoon that the right-hander is still at least three weeks away from making his 2012 MLB debut.

According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, an MRI on Tim Stauffer's right elbow revealed no structural damage. Manager Bud Black said it will be ''a few days'' before Stauffer is allowed to pick up a ball, as the Padres won't risk him taking the mound at less than 100 percent. The 29-year-old right-hander should be cleared to make his 2012 debut by mid-April.

Padres placed RHP Tim Stauffer on the 15-day disabled list with a right triceps injury. Stauffer felt fine after playing catch on Wednesday, but the Padres don't want to risk him taking the mound at less than 100 percent. The 29-year-old right-hander should be cleared to make his 2012 debut by mid-April.

Tim Stauffer is currently dealing with a mild triceps injury. It's good that it's a mild case, but any injury this late in spring training puts Opening Day in danger, especially when it involves a pitching arm. The Padres have already named Edinson Volquez their Opening Day starter and could conceivably push Stauffer back until they need a fifth starter. He's struggled this spring, posting a 5.60 ERA.

Tim Stauffer allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk in five innings of Monday's loss to the Cubs. Stauffer is now the owner of a 5.60 ERA through 17 2/3 spring innings, but that number is obscured by a five-run, 2 2/3 inning outing he had on March 16 against the Angels. Otherwise, he's allowed just six runs in 15 frames. He's ready for the regular season.

Tim Stauffer rebounded Wednesday from a disastrous outing his last time out, twirling six scoreless innings on just three hits against the Dodgers. He struck out a pair. Stauffer was beaten like a drum his last time out, allowing five runs on 11 hits and two walks in just 2 2/3 innings, so he probably could have used this performance to help his confidence. His spring ERA still sits at an unsightly 6.39, but we're not worried.
