Tim Stauffer has been told that he will begin the season with Triple-A Tucson. Stauffer owns an ugly 8.74 ERA over six appearances this spring, but his 11/2 K/BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings provides reason for encouragement. He also hasn't had any issues with his elbow. If all goes well, the veteran right-hander could be an option for the major league rotation by the end of April.

Tim Stauffer was knocked around again Wednesday, yielding three runs on five hits and a walk over five innings against the Giants. He did strike out four but needed 52 pitches to navigate through the three frames. Stauffer's elbow hasn't been an issue this spring, but he now has a 10.61 ERA over 9 1/3 innings. He does, however, have a nice 10/2 K/BB ratio. It's possible the Padres will ease him into things, but he should be ready to join the rotation sometime in April.

Tim Stauffer continued his early spring struggles in Friday's loss to the Royals, surrendering four runs on four hits in his 2 1/3 innings of relief work. The results haven't been anything to write home about thus far, but the most important thing to note is Stauffer's health. He's progressing nicely from an elbow operation that he underwent in August, and should be able to rejoin the rotation at some point in the first month of the season.
