Victor Rask will get a chance to make the Carolina Hurricanes out of training camp. Rask spent 10 games with the Canes' AHL affiliate to start last season before being reassigned to the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL. In two seasons with the Hitmen, Rask has 47 goals and 104 points in 101 junior games. "I think it's been huge for him playing in Calgary," VP of hockey ops Ron Francis said. "Not just the players he's with, but watching the pro team there (the Calgary Flames) and how hard they work on and off the ice. He invested a lot of effort in his workouts and (has) gotten a lot stronger, and you see it on the ice."

Victor Rask has been reassigned to his junior team in Calgary of the WHL. "We're just trying to do what we think is best for Victor," said AHL Charlotte Checkers coach Jeff Daniels. "We want him to be able to get as much ice time as possible in all situations that he might not have gotten here. He needs to be playing at the end of games, taking key faceoffs and being in more of a leadership role." Rask has been a healthy scratch for three games already this season, while producing one goal and four assists in 10 appearances. In his first year with the Calgary Hitmen in 2011-12, he registered 33 goals and 63 points in 64 contests.
