After posting a multi-point showing in the season opener, Rask went six straight contests without marking the scoresheet, so Thursday's offensive outburst was more than welcomed. The 24-year-old center is talented and being deployed in offensive situations, but consistency remains a serious shortcoming. Until he offers more game-to-game reliability, Rask's fantasy upside will remain capped.

Rask extended his current pointless drought to five games Saturday against the Stars. He now has just two points through six games this season.

EDGE Analysis

Expectations were high for the 24-year-old Swede after he scored a goal and an assist in the season opener against the Wild, however it's been nothing but donuts for him ever since. Rask continues to see roughly 16 minutes of ice time per game, centering the second line between Sebastian Aho and Elias Lindholm, but if the drought continue, he could wind up being shuffled down to a checking-line role. Feel free to put him on your fantasy bench until he can figure out a way to right the ship.

Rask registered a goal and a power-play assist Saturday in a 5-4 shootout win over the Wild at home.

The Swedish pivot only won 36 percent of his draws, but was otherwise efficient in this game. Rask managed his first goal of the season on just two shots and he skated to a plus-1 rating over 13:47 of ice time. While he can be maddeningly inconsistent on a game-to-game basis, the same cannot be said about his annual production since he's produced 48 and 45 points, respectively, over the past two seasons.

Rask fired four shots on goal during Thursday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets, but failed to crack the scoresheet for the fifth time in the last six games.

EDGE Analysis

With 43 points and six games remaining, Rask has an outside shot at matching his 48-point total from last season; however, he'll have to go on a bit of a tear down the stretch to get it done. Rask has been extremely hot-and-cold this season, making him a very unreliable fantasy commodity on a nightly or weekly basis.

Rask opened the scoring with his 15th goal of the season in Saturday's 3-2 loss against the Maple Leafs.

EDGE Analysis

Rask is starting to get hot after an ice-cold February, posting two goals with seven points over his past nine outings. Head coach Bill Peters let Rask work out his problems on the ice and the coach's patience is starting to pay dividends for the Hurricanes and Rask's fantasy owners.

Rask went scoreless for 14 straight games from Jan. 14-Feb. 21, but he has managed at least one point in each of his past three outings. It's not great, but it's a start. Head coach Bill Peters has been patient letting Rask iron out his woes and that patience is starting to bear fruit for the Carolina coach and Rask's fantasy owners.

Rask posted his first point since Jan. 13, a span of 14 games. He continues to see time as a top-six forward, as head coach Bill Peters has given Rask a long leash. Fantasy owners cannot afford to be as generous and should reserve him until he starts posting points on a much more frequent basis.

Rask entered the All-Star break riding a six-game pointless streak, his longest drought of the season.

EDGE Analysis

With 32 points in 48 games, Rask is still on track for a career-best 55-point season. but this latest soft patch is no doubt causing fantasy owners to start pulling their hair out. The fact remains, it's still early in the 23-year-old Rask's young career, and he's still figuring out how to be a consistent scorer on a mediocre Hurricanes squad. Have some patience. and Rask should reward you with a 50+ point season when all is said and done.

Surprisingly, the highly talented pivot hadn't recorded multiple points in a game since way back on Dec. 13 (his second straight such effort at the time), and he managed just four points with a minus-3 rating in the 11-game interim. Even so, Rask still has 31 points in 41 games, giving him relevance (along with a huge helping of upside) in nearly any fantasy format. He also now has a positive rating for the season at plus-2; he finished negative in each of his first two seasons, so that represents a big stride if he can maintain it.

EDGE Analysis

While well on his way to a breakout campaign with 11 goals, 28 points and 90 shots, Rask has begun to show a little more offensive inconsistency of late. He has just three points through his past nine games, after all. Still, he's the go-to offensive pivot for Carolina and is worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues.
