Tomas Vokoun improved to a perfect 4-0-0 Tuesday as he stopped 20 shots in a 3-0 victory over his former teammates in Florida. Coach Bruce Boudreau deserves some credit for Vokoun's hot start, as his decision to play Michal Neuvirth in the season opener seems to have sparked the veteran. In addition to his perfect record, Vokoun boasts a 1.94 GAA and .935 save percentage so far on the campaign. A lack of playing time is the only thing that can prevent him from being a top-five netminder at year's end.

Tomas Vokoun said the dramatic change in the Panthers' roster since he left over the summer will prevent him from getting too sentimental when the Capitals play against them on Tuesday. Vokoun pointed out that they're not the team he played for, which is true given that the Panthers have a new coach and 12 new players. "I took it hard when I was traded from Nashville, so it made it kind of special when I played that team," Vokoun added. "But [this time] when I left and it was my decision, so I don't really have any, you know . obviously I wish them the best, except for when we play them. That's normal." Michal Neuvirth (foot) isn't expected to be available on Tuesday, so Vokoun will probably play between the pipes.

Tomas Vokoun allowed only two goals on 41 shots in a 3-2 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. Vokoun bounced back from a shaky debut to register his second win of the season tonight. Vokoun will have a legitimate shot at 40 wins playing for the cup contending Capitals and will no longer be a handicap in fantasy leagues that uses losses as a scoring category. He should also have a sub 2.50 goals-against average to go along with a save percentage that will rank in the top-tier of the league.

Tomas Vokoun will start Thursday's contest in Pittsburgh. Michal Neuvirth did not make the trip because of an undisclosed lower-body injury, so Braden Holtby has been called up to serve as his backup.

Washington goaltender Tomas Vokoun, who allowed five goals in a shootout victory over Tampa Bay on Monday night, has been a slow starter throughout his career. A statistical analysis reveals that October is Vokoun's worst month with respect to goals against average a save percentage. While he allowed five goals in his Washington debut Monday night, Vokoun sparkled in the third period and with TB on the powerplay in overtime.

Although he recorded the victory, Tomas Vokoun was far from sharp in his Capitals' debut. He allowed five goals on only 28 shots in a 6-5 win over Tampa as his teammates bailed him out by scoring five as well and then scoring two in the shootout. On the plus side, Vokoun did not allow any goals in the shootout. We suspect he may have been nervous. However, he is going to have to be a lot better if he is to make the 65 starts most experts have predicted. Michal Neuvirth is a very capable netminder who is itching for the opportunity to start.

Tomas Vokoun will make his Washington Capitals debut against Tampa Bay on Monday. Vokoun should have a sub 2.50 goals-against average to go along with a save percentage that will rank in the top-tier of the league playing for the Caps this season. Adjust your goaltending rotation accordingly and pickup Michal Neuvirth immediately from the waiver wire if he's still available.

Tomas Vokoun is expected to bring consistency and stability to the Washington Capitals this season. Vokoun will undoubtably enter the season as the Capitals starting goaltender and for the first time since the days of Olaf Kolzig, Washington will boast an established true number-one goalie. Year in, year out, Vokoun has posted great numbers on an offensively anemic Panthers team. Since the lockout, Vokoun has recorded a save percentage of .919 or better in all six seasons playing for mostly mediocre Panthers clubs. He didn't often get the credit that he deserved, mostly because of where he played, but all that will change now in Washington. Playing for the cup contending Capitals, Vokoun should have a sub 2.50 goals-against average to go along with a save percentage that will rank in the top-tier of the league. His fantasy value also increases as he now has a legitimate shot at 40 wins and will no longer be a handicap in fantasy leagues that uses losses as a scoring category.

Tomas Vokoun turned down a similar contract offer by the Detroit Red Wings this summer to play with Washington. "My belief is this team has a better chance to win than Detroit does," Vokoun said. "And they showed a lot more interest, so that was the key for me, too." That's a strong statement, considering Detroit's history of success compared to Washington's postseason struggles, but it's not one we disagree with. Washington certainly has the talent and adding Vokoun this summer only helps matters. We got a long season ahead of us and anything could happen, but Washington should be considered a serious contender, despite their recent playoff shortcomings.
