Head coach Todd Reirden announced Wilson (suspension) will appeal his 20-game ban, Chris Kuc of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The appeal is hardly a surprise given the long sentence Wilson received Wednesday for an illegal hit to the head of Blues winger Oskar Sundqvist during the preseason finale on Sept. 30. It's unclear what effect the appeal will have, but even if the process shaves a few games off the suspension, the Toronto native is still likely to miss several weeks of action. Keep an eye on the situation as it unfolds. For now, Brett Connolly has taken Wilson's place on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Wilson received a 20-game ban for an illegal check to the head on St. Louis' Oskar Sundqvist, the Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Wilson will essentially miss 25 percent of the season after his hit on Sundqvist was determined be high, forceful and avoidable, while making the head the main point of contact and causing an injury. It should be noted that Wilson is considered a repeat offender after being banned three times during the course of the 2017-18, which the league noted as "an unprecedented frequency of suspension in the history of the Department of Player Safety." After setting career highs in goals (14) and assists (21) last season, Wilson will almost certainly won't be able to match those marks this year. The 24-year-old's first chance to play this season will be Nov. 19 versus Montreal.

Wilson will have an in-person hearing Wednesday to address his headshot on Blues forward, Oskar Sundqvist.
EDGE Analysis
Wilson received a game misconduct for the act and as a repeat offender, could see himself hit with a hefty suspension. The offering of an in-person hearing allows the league to hand out a suspension of six or more games. Sundqvist, meanwhile, is expected to miss some time, according to Blues head coach Mike Yeo. At this point, it is a foregone conclusion that Wilson will miss time as a result of his most recent on-ice misstep.

Wilson has been offered an in-person hearing with the league following his ejection from Sunday's preseason game, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wilson was kicked out of Sunday's game after delivering an open-ice headshot to Blues forward, Oskar Sundqvist. Early reports suggest Sundqvist will miss an extended period of time. Meanwhile, the Capitals figure to be without Wilson for a handful of games as a result of his most recent on-ice transgression. The offering of an in-person hearing allows the league to levy a suspension of six games or more if they deem it necessary.

Wilson was ejected from Sunday's 5-2 win over the blues after being given a match penalty for an illegal check to the head, JJ Regan of NBC Sports Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wilson's resume of questionable hits continues to grow as he hit Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist with a violent hit early in the second period that knocked Sundqvist out of the game. The power forward's actions will be scrutinized very closely by the Department of Player Safety and it's very possible that Wilson could be staring at another suspension to open the season. It is the threat of suspensions more than anything else that undermines Wilson's long-term fantasy value in standard formats, so managers should be aware of the risks before rostering him in any league.

Wilson picked up an assist and a plus-2 rating during Friday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Hurricanes.
EDGE Analysis
Wilson will debut alongside Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov on the top line to open the season. Notorious for his physical play since entering the league in 2013-14, the 6-foot-4 power forward's fantasy value has largely been confined to deeper formats where his prowess as a hitter and penalty minute-getter were rewarded. That caveat is removed as long as he can apply his trade with talented offensive players on a consistent basis. The lack of power-play opportunity is a concern, but Wilson has evolved into a broadly-draftable player in all formats heading into 2018-19.

Wilson inked a six-year deal with the Capitals with an AAV of $5.17 million Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Well that's certainly a significant new contract. It's a bit surprising as well, given that Wilson had 14 goals and 35 points last season, and both were career highs. He gets essentially no power-play minutes, and in fact spend a lot of time in the penalty box. That being said, the 24-year-old is locked into a lengthy new deal with the defending champs, and could find himself once again skating on a line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov. That could end up paying off.

Wilson has been tendered a qualifying offer, Adam Zielonka of The Washington Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The report adds that Wilson's camp is optimistic that the 24-year-old will work out a long-term extension with the Capitals in the coming weeks. The power forward had an impactful postseason with five goals and 15 points during the Caps' Stanley Cup run, and will be counted on as a full-time top-six forward starting in 2018-19, which will boost his value significantly in standard formats.

Wilson notched an assist in Thursday's Game 5 Stanley Cup-winning game against Vegas.
EDGE Analysis
The postseason leader in hits (100) added another six in the final game of the series, and also contributed on the scoresheet with an assist to Jakub Vrana for the opening goal of the game. Despite missing three games due to suspension earlier in the playoffs, Wilson led all players in hits by 12, as he averaged just under five per game. However, Wilson was far from just a bruiser in the playoffs. He crushed his previous career high postseason point total of three with 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) over 21 games. This 0.71 points per game mark was significantly higher than his regular-season total of 0.45, and this scoring rate paired with his physicality made for an extremely productive fantasy player in the playoffs.

Wilson scored a goal and an assist in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Lightning in Game 2.
EDGE Analysis
He opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the game, giving him his third goal of the postseason and first since Game 4 of the first-round series against Columbus. Wilson does have six points in his last five games, however, as he continues to thrive alongside Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov on the Caps' top line.
