Chabot was rewarded for his play with an expanded role for two games, but he didn't take advantage of it and has seen his ice time dwindle to about 11 minutes a game. He's an exciting option in dynasty formats, but unless he gets things figured out soon, he probably won't be much help in 2017-18.

In the three games Chabot appeared with Ottawa in October he averaged 13:40 of ice time, so a third-line pairing is likely for the youngster when he gets the nod to suit up.

Enter Chabot, who the Senators selected 18th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The left-shooting rearguard added 45 points (10 goals, 35 assists) in 34 regular-season games for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL in 2016-17.

A first-round pick in 2015, GM Pierre Dorion got Chabot's hype train rolling when he declared the player NHL-ready in early July. However, Chabot looked overmatched during Saturday's 9-2 demolition at the hands of Montreal and posted a horrendous minus-5 rating. That said, Chabot still has boatloads of talent and should find himself back at the NHL level after gaining some valuable professional experience in the minors.

Senators GM Pierre Dorion had sung the young defenseman's praises earlier in the summer, deeming the 20-year-old NHL ready, so perhaps the prospect will get a free pass here.

Chabot is a highly touted prospect from the blue line. He absolutely shredded QMJHL competition as a member of the Saint John Sea Dogs over the past four seasons, unloading 153 points (34 goals, 119 assists) over 202 regular-season games, and he managed greater than one point per contest in the last two years of playoff action. Chabot's stellar play led to his taking home three pieces of hardware, including the 2017 Guy Lafleur Trophy for postseason MVP. Since Ottawa lost defenseman Marc Methot to the Golden Knights during the expansion draft --he was subsequently traded to Dallas -- there's suddenly a glaring hole on the back line for the Senators; it appears that Chabot is the frontrunner for the gig.
